“Just returned”

Sofitel Sharm El-Sheikh

May 2, 2008

Just returned from the Sofitel - as other reviewers have said the bathrooms are a disgrace - also because the rooms are built into the hillside you will get a lot of noise from other guests at all times of the day and night as unlike most hotels there are only rooms on one side of the corridor outside your room and the walls and floor are concrete so sound travels also on our floor some guest seemed incapable of closing the door without slamming it !!

The major problem with this hotel is the fact you can hear the discos from Naama bay each and every evening so if you are a light sleeper dont expect much rest before 3 am

That is except for Thursday eve where the hard Rock Cafe have a open air disco which is about 10 times as loud as the other ones and it actually sounds like the disco is in the hotel and this goes on from 3 am to 6:30 am !!! you have been warned - many guests were complaining !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke to the duty manager about this and he said he was trying to get something done about it - I said you better quick because once the word gets out on this forum you will be loosing guests

I cant comment on the food as we ate out in Naama bay most evenings but we did eat in the Indian resturant in the hotel and its excellent

The sunbeds are nearly all taken by 07:30 especially round the pool but only half will be sat on by 11:00 and the brits are as guilty in this as any other nationality !! and that also goes for the beach

To sum up its a nice hotel certainly not 4 or 5 * and not the place for a relaxing break and a good nights sleep !!

“wonderful, BUT .... the bathroom”

Sofitel Sharm El-Sheikh

Apr 29, 2008

The spot is very nice and the beach and pavillion are great. But the hygiene of the bath room is undiscussable, old and in a terrible shape. Please change this as soon as impossible because this is for us sooo standard that missing this it will slash down all your efforts fundamentally.

“Great location, views and beach”

Sofitel Sharm El-Sheikh

Just got back from a weeks stay at the Sofitel and found it to be a great place. The hotel is situated at the end of Naama bay and escapes the madness, but is only a 20 minute walk to the centre of the bay.

All rooms face the sea so has fantastic views. The 4 private beaches at the hotel are great with amazing reefs. We done a diving trip to Tiran Island but to be honest, I thought the reefs at the hotel were just as good and had more variety of fish.

The pool is enormous, probably the biggest Ive seen at a hotel. The grounds are lovely and very well maintained. The staff are also very friendly and make an effort to chat to you, although I found the reception staff not as forthcoming but they were polite.

It has a great Indian restaurant that does excellent food and looks out over the entire hotel. I wouldnt advise going half board here as the evening meals are done at the buffet restaurant which were ok but there are so many other nice restaurants in Sharm to eat at. We ate there the first night and had to pay for it as we were B&B. There is a large selection of food but I can imagine it would get boring eating there every night. Overall though, the food at the hotels various restaurants/bars was good.

I think the only thing this hotel could improve on is the rooms. They are clean and comfortable but could do with a makeover, especially the bathrooms. The rooms are spacious but quite basic. This wasnt really a problem for us though as, lets face it, youre not in your room for the majority of the day and the beds were comfortable. But I would of given this hotel five stars if the rooms matched the quality of the rest of the hotel.

“Great location but lacking something”

Sofitel Sharm El-Sheikh

3 of 5 stars
Rio de Janeiro
Apr 21, 2008

The Sofitel Sharm el Sheikh has a classy location all right, especially if you're into snorkelling - walk into the sea and get to see some great stuff. The views from the rooms are pretty good, the pool is great ... but, but ...
We'd booked a room with double bed and got a room with two singles pushed together so that the central console was at one side and only one person could control lights etc. As to the pool ... do you want your pool experience to be accompanied by either Richard Clayderman or the pool gymnastics instructor bellowing into a microphone? With hundreds of Russians around you? Yes? then this is the place for you (but not for us).
Need a snack between 10 and 12 am? Forget it .. none of the four / five eating places are open. (Also the fish restaurant closes at 6 pm - weird). However the Indian place is good as reviews indicate. But the buffet place where breakfast is served is poor - paid way over the price for what we got.
Overall this was an average place and nothing really 'bad' - but after great Sofitel experiences in Bali and Bangkok, it was just ... well, disappointing.

“Loved the Sofitel!!!!”

Sofitel Sharm El-Sheikh

5 of 5 stars
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Apr 14, 2008

This hotel is beautifully situated on Naama Bay with all rooms sea-view. The hotel is beautiful and there was truly privacy at the private beaches. It was so wonderfully to wake up each morning to the beautiful sea as well as the view of the hotel, which was phenomenal. I would highly recommend this hotel.
