“wonderful stay at the Pitney House! A+”

This was our very first stay in a bed and breakfast and I can only hope that all of them are as nice as the inn run by Mr. Kelly. He was very hospitable and the inn is lovely.
I booked the Pitney House because their prices were very competative if not better then the local hotels in the area. I read some reviews of area hotels to make an comparative and informed decision on where to stay. I felt very comfortable after chatting with Mr. Kelly on the phone. The website he has for the Pitney house is very informative and makes a very good impression for an already nice establishment.
I was and am very pleased with my overall experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr. Kelly's inn at the Pitney House. It was a lovely stay.

“Comfortable Quarters”

Easy to find, this historic property consists of a mansion filled with antiques and valuable paintings (or copies thereof), and a classic contemporary duplex carriage house, also very tastefully decorated with that early American look. The jacuzzi tub might interest some. Plenty of towels and quilts. We were permitted to bring our dog. A pet friendly forum. Neighborhood is very quiet. As we were in town for the wedding of the season, we treated the rooms as one would expect--a wonderful retreat to welcome us at the end of the day. The host is intelligent and available, and cooks up a tasty breakfast. Nice to be in the house where once lived the man who invented Atlantic City.

“Wonderful Stay at the Dr. Jonathan Pitney House!”

Dr. Jonathan Pitney House

5 of 5 stars
Ocean View, NJ
Nov 9, 2007

Ten years ago, (1997) my husband and I spent our first night together after our wedding at the Dr. Jonathan Pitney House. It's a warm,clean, colonial, Bed and Breakfast, where you walk in and smell fresh baked goods baking in the oven. Immediately we felt right at home! The room we stayed in was the "Jonathan room", with hardwood floors, a modern gas fireplace, a queen sized bed, a nice size, private bathroom with a tub and shower. They served us a wonderful, hot breakfast in the morning and we were on our way to catch a plane! This year, as we celebrated our 10th anniversary, we could think of no other place we wanted to be, but back at the Dr. Jonathan Pitney house! This place holds wonderful memories for us as we began our new life together and the second time around was just as special as the first time. It far exceeded our expectations both times and we will come back again and again. It's charming and quaint, and a wonderful place to spend a special occasion or several nights away!

    • Liked — It was clean, warm and a romantic place to be.
    • Disliked — Nothing....there's nothing I can say that was negative about it!

“Stay Away”

Dr. Jonathan Pitney House

Aug 21, 2007

We can spend paragraphs cataloging our episodic adventure at the Dr. Jonathan Pitney house, and then justify our position to you, the reader, who knows not from where we come.

In order to spare us both the process we'll just tell you this:

We frequently patronize B & B's. While we prefer to stay at the Ritz, B & B's typically offer clean accommodations and a good meal at a fair price. That good ole down home feeling that B & B's offer, is often, but not always, a great bonus.

Within 5 minutes of checking into the Dr. Jonathan Pitney house we knew we'd never stay the night. If we had to drive back home (we were 2 1/2 hours from home) or spend the night trying to find the light that Tom Bodet left on for us, that's what we would have done.

If we had flown into Atlantic City from Australia and could find no alternative accommodations, we would have sooner found our way back to the Airport and slept in a chair.

If you have no difficulty spending your waking hours in a house that has not been vacuumed in years;

If you're not grossed out by having to shower in a bath laden with the bodily fluids of the past 1000 (maybe more) guests;

If you have no problem laying your naked/or PJ'ed body down on bedding that has not be washed since new, you might like the Dr. Jonathan Pitney House.

If not, steer clear and say a prayer for poor ole Dr. Pitney. He must be turning in his grave.

“Old World Charm and delicious breakfast!!!”

Dr. Jonathan Pitney House

My husband and I are musicians and have worked in various Casinos for a few consecutive nights at a time. We absolutely love this place and have stayed here on several occasions. It is located on a quiet lot just off of Route 30, which has a load of restaurants and shops. It's a short jaunt to A.C. The breakfast is always wonderful here and it is very clean. The owner is so very sweet and helpful. I can't understand why anyone would write a bad review of this place. ( I am a very well traveled and cultured individual.) Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but if you're looking for 5-star ammenities and royal pampering, then pay $500 a night and stay in town. If you want old world charm with the romantic quaintness of a true blue bed & breakfast, plus the honor of staying in the house that was a home to the man who founded Atlantic City, then the Pitney House is the place to be!
