“Novel but I prefer the Rocky Mountains”

I was in Dubai the other day on a business trip and had a free weekend. Looking for something to do I stumbled across this picture of skiing and discovered that Dubai has a ski area. My home in Colorado in the US is about 30 minutes from the greatest skiing in the world. Naturally I was skeptical but could not resist the novelty of the idea. So a short taxi cab ride brought me to the Mall of the Emirtes and I was standing before a ski lift gazing up the slope about 15 minutes later. The cost of admission provides everything you need except a hat and gloves (which you do need by the way). There was almost no crowd at all so I was able to ride to the top and ski down about once every 6 minutes. The run was short but the experience was great, I enjoyed every second of my 2 hour pass and managed about 18 runs. It left me longing for the slopes of home but for a few hours diversion in Dubai you can't beat it. Take a friend and sit by the fire afterwards, if you close your eyes it find of feels like Colorado.

Everything from the snow park, to the snow school was very well done. i have now moved to Dubai and i have regular snowboarding lessons. all the staff are friendly and we experienced. It was amazing to see how a ski slope with temperatures falling to -2 degrees could be such a success even though it is in the middle of the desert. 10 out of 10 from me!

Great for locals who may not have experienced snow but apart from that not worth the time and effort for experienced skiers. Good shopping in the Mall though!

It costs 115 Dirhams to get a ski pass, 10 of which is refundable at the end when you feed the pass back into a machine.
The rental equipment is not the best, the boots are cheap and the skis are pretty basic. You also get a jacket and salopets (that go over your trousers/shorts) and a locker to put your stuff in. The locker works off the ski pass so don't loose it! You also need the ski pass to get on the lift inside, it has a chip in it and there is a place in the arm of your jacket where it goes. You do not get gloves or a hat so if you planning on going bring your own (don't need the hat in my opinion). I am sure you can buy them there as the place is in the middle of a massive shopping mall!
There is not much carrying of skis as there is an escalator that takes you up to the entrance where you pick up your poles. Tip. Check the size of your poles as people just return them to any old slot and all because the big label states 115 cms does not mean that they will be that length, someone could have dumped 125 cms in there.
The actual slope is about 400 meters long and turns a dog leg. There is an easy side and a harder side.
I haven’t skied on artificial snow before and didn’t really like it. There is a mist that hangs over the place and the visibility is not the best. If you have skied before you will get bored very soon.
The ski lift is sooo slow. It takes ages to get up. There is a half way point where you can get off before it turns the dog leg.
For a new place it is already looking a little tired and I suspect they have a few problems.
On the plus side it was pretty empty. It is probably a great place to learn how to ski.
Would I go again? No. I only did it as it sounded wacky to ski then go down the beach but no desire to go back, unlike Wild Wadi ...

“Great Idea but badly organised at the moment”

We visited Ski Dubai on Thursday in early february. The place wasnt that busy bearing in mind that it was the weekend but it still took us 45 minutes to get in.

I was surprised to find that you arent allowed in the skiing area unless you are an experienced skier - so no nursery slopes. Lessons are bookable though but theres a 3 day wait so it wasnt an option for us.

We went into the snow park instead and whilst it was a nice novelty and my kids loved it I couldnt help thinking that it could be much better run. Not enough sledges, several parts closed etc etc.

I'm sure things will improve with time and I'll visit again. Just dont expect a well-run attraction just yet...
