I was in Dubai the other day on a business trip and had a free weekend. Looking for something to do I stumbled across this picture of skiing and discovered that Dubai has a ski area. My home in Colorado in the US is about 30 minutes from the greatest skiing in the world. Naturally I was skeptical but could not resist the novelty of the idea. So a short taxi cab ride brought me to the Mall of the Emirtes and I was standing before a ski lift gazing up the slope about 15 minutes later. The cost of admission provides everything you need except a hat and gloves (which you do need by the way). There was almost no crowd at all so I was able to ride to the top and ski down about once every 6 minutes. The run was short but the experience was great, I enjoyed every second of my 2 hour pass and managed about 18 runs. It left me longing for the slopes of home but for a few hours diversion in Dubai you can't beat it. Take a friend and sit by the fire afterwards, if you close your eyes it find of feels like Colorado.
