We had a bumpy start to our stay at the Dalat Palace in May, but nothing could overshadow the magnificence of this grand hotel!
We had booked 3 nights and really, were only visiting Dalat to stay here. So we were devastated when, on arrival, we were told they had overbooked, and that we'd have to stay at the Novotel for the first night. They did upgrade our room at the Novotel, however this hotel was well below the standards we were looking for.
But the next morning we were swiftly transferred to our magnificent Dalat Palace suite, and all was forgiven! It was the most opulent room we've ever seen - full of character and old-world charm thanks to the little touches, like genuine antique furniture, chandeliers, oil paintings, a claw-footed bath tub and a canopied bed. Our suite was enormous, on the top floor and had a magnificent view over the lake and gardens form the balcony.
Didn't eat dinner on-site but indulged in high tea, which was magnificent. Take the time to stroll around the hotel and take in all the nooks and crannies - it is a truly magnificent property.
Agree with other reviewers' comments about the hand-held showers - nice to look at, but a pain to use. However hotel staff told us that the property is about to undergo room renovations, which include brand new showers.
If you're a golf nut, I recommend a game at the Dalat Palace Course. Spectacular scenery and a great course, plus hotel guests get a big green fee discount.
Had a lovely massage in the hotel's new spa, where the staff were just lovely. However it was very expensive, the facilities weren't great and the CD player skipped, stopped and jumped all through the treatment (making it a bit hard to drift off and relax!).
Our only major complaint (apart from the double-booking) would be that I arrived back to the room one day to find 5 housekeeping staff sitting around in our lounge area laughing, chatting and eating the leftover fruit on our coffee table! Certainly didn't expect that from staff in such a high-end hotel and it made me feel incredibly uncomfortable.
Over all this was a gorgeosu place to stay, and by far one of the most incredible heritage hotels I've ever seen. If you visit Dalat, you MUST spend a night here!
