Mantra on Kent

I have stayed at a similar property in Melbourne previously, so when I was searching for somewhere to stay in Sydney, this hotel was a natural choice. I had read the reviews on trip advisor, and thought it sounded pretty good. I contacted the hotel directly for a quote on the price of rooms for the weekend I was to be there. After being told the price, I reserved a one bedroom suite for 3 nights. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was a little unsure I had the right property, as the hotel had undergone a name change the previous week (the hotel is now called Mantra on Kent). However, after confirming with the lady at reception, I was assured I was in the correct place. Check-in was quick and fuss free, and I was also told I was being upgraded. No idea why, but I'm not complaining. I was on the 21st floor, and lift delivered me there swiftly. When I opened my door, I was surprised and extremely happy with my room. I had a washer and dryer in my huge bathroom, king size bed, oven and microwave in the kitchen, and tv, dvd player and internet cables. The view of Darling Harbour was a little obstructed by some buildings, but I could still see quite a bit. The bedroom could also be completely screened off from the rest of the apartment. There was a note on the bedside table from the room maid, with her name and a form which could be filled out with any specific requests. The mini fridge was completely stocked, and also contained a complimentary small carton of milk. Everytime I left the hotel or returned, I was greeted by staff at reception, and also asked if everything was ok with my room. Overall I could not have been happier with my experience staying at this hotel. The only tiny critisism I have would be the tea and coffee was not restocked every day, but then I didn't use it all anyway. Also, the water in the shower tended to be a bit up and down on temperature, but that was minor. I would definately stay here again in the future.

“CBD winner”

Mantra on Kent

This hotel has improved greatly since my first visit in December. Recent changes in staff and management has ensured this hotel is now a real winner.

I would recommend for the business traveller, as the apartments are spacious and well appointed. I stayed in a one bedroom apartment which had a screen partition separating the bedroom to lounge room and windows afforded great views of Darling Harbour. Full kitchen and laundry were great, but I didn't even use on this visit.

Location is great for the leisure traveller too, its opposite Town Hall station and dangerously close to QVB for shopping! There is a great cafe at QVB - Jet which does a great breakfast, however the hotel restaurant has re-decorated and offers a continental buffet and hot breakfast cooked to order, so is also a good option.

The hotel is within easy walking distance to Darling Harbour and we enjoyed the restaurants on the Cockle Bay side, including Nick's Seafood which is always a winner. Another restaurant close by is "Devine", cnr Market & Castlereagh (from memory) which was outstanding.

The hotels lobby has been refurbished and the staff are helpful and friendly making it a great value option in the CBD.

We booked a small studio room at this hotel last minute for an overnight stay. It was perfect for what we needed. A bed and a clean, comfortable room to stay in. It wasn't massive but it was all that we needed.

Location is great, right in the city. The staff are super helpful and polite. Would definitely stay here again.

“Perfectly adequate”

Booked this a year before our stay so we got a great rate for over the New Year period. The hotel is in a great location, almost within spitting distance of Darling Harbour, and the shopping hub of QVB and George St. Circular Quay, Kings Cross and Bondi Junction are all easily accessible by train from Town Hall station which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and the airport is 20 minutes away by train from the same station.

We had a one bedroom apartment, the bedroom was an actual room as opposed to just a screened off area as in some apartments. The living room was very spacious with a double foldout bed, dining table and kitchen area. The bathroom was big enough for my needs, and was kept fully stocked by housekeeping at all times. The only downside was that we only had a dryer in our room and not a washing machine. The assistant manager did allow me to use another room to wash my clothes though so that wasn't a problem.

Reception staff were hit and miss, some were fantastic, others not so much, but i don't holiday in Reception so it didn't bother me!

All in all i enjoyed my stay and would consider staying there again if in town and the price was right!

“didn't like it”

Mantra on Kent

Dec 31, 2007

overall, i would not stay there again. i never seen a bathroom sink counter so small. i couldn't put anything there. the toilet had issue where the water continuously ran. the worse was the shower. the shower head shot out water so hard that it hurts! so you need to be carefully where that water hits if you know what i mean. my girlfriend did take the warning from me and when it was her turn, she let out a yelp due to the water hitting some sensitive parts. ouchie!

the staff was friendly though but the rooms were just outdated.
