“Ordinary room with great vies”

Harbourside Apartments

Mar 19, 2008

Proberbly the best view of the Opera House and Bridge you could ever ask for but the room was a bit disapointing. Our studio was fare sized but a bit tired. In a real need of upgrade.

But the service was good and you get free parking ( a real bonus in Sydney!) If you need to go into the CBD just hope on the ferry - it is a cheap and wonderful experience to see the city. Do yourself a favour and book the barbie one night. What a view from outside and a good way to make new friends.

“Outstanding view, if you are prepared to compromise on room standard”

This was my third stay at the apartments in 3 years. Why to do I pick it, well the views are stunning and cannot be obtained by any other hotel in Sydney.

The apartments are situated on the north side of the harbour and as previous reviews have stated you are some what isolated.
I dispute this somewhat for a number of reasons.

1. A bus service runs up to North Sydney every 15 mins (7am to 6pm Mon to Sat) from McMahons point, a 1 minute walk from the apartments.
2. You can walk up to North Sydney in 15 mins, uphill on way up but great views and a lovely walk.
3. Small local shops and restaurants are dotted all the way up with larger supermarket type shops once your in North Sydney
4. The ferry service is excellent, frequent and on time so getting over the the main city is not only easy, it's great fun and a noval way to travel every day.

I stay in a harbour view room, it costs extra but worth it. Cannot rate the other room types. Have had a 1 bedroom a 2 bedroom and this time a newly refurbished studio room. Note that not all the rooms have been done but they do need it as they are a little tired. So check when you book! I have placed pictures on the site so you can see what it looks like.

On the plus side the apartments are clean, tidy and quiet at night. You can make use of the outdoor pool from 7am to 10pm each day or have a BBQ in the recreation area. Neither of which I have done.
On the downside watch out for the old woman that mans the front desk very early in the morning. She needs to learn some customer service skills. I had a run in with her over the vending machine not giving me a drink when I put in my money. She was very rude and said that it did not belong to them and she could do nothing to help me! It was the way she said it and acted that got me upset! The internet usage fee is also a but of a rip off. $22 per day (not wifi) or $100 for a week there is also a limit on downloads of 80mb a day. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, they do have fans. This may sound like a big issue and could be on really hot days but remember you are by the water so it cools down very nicely at night. So I think it is only a problem if it becomes muggy.

All in all the views are stunning, the place is good but not 5 star standard. You are paying for the location but trust me it is worth it.

Enjoy!

“Lovely views”

Harbourside Apartments

4 of 5 stars
Melbourne Australia
Mar 10, 2008

We loved staying at the Harbourside Apartments. Ferry right outside the door and lovely views of magnificent Sydney Harbour. Whilst a bit isolated (which was what we wanted), we caught the local bus up the hill (a regular service - ties in with the ferries) and bought provisions. We also used the ferries to sightsee around Sydney.

Our room was very good, I think recently refurbished. In saying that, when we arrived we were offered a below standard room, dark and with no views, despite the fact that we had been promised a room with a view. This fault was promptly rectified with reception and we ended up with a great room.

We initially thought the staff were not particularly warm nor friendly, but after the first impression we found them to be fine. In fact, very helpful and friendly.

We will stay again.

It's lovely.

“Home away from home”

Harbourside Apartments

Feb 12, 2008

I stayed here on business and found it was adequate. I prefer to stay in apartments when I'm away for work as it allows you the freedom to cook yourself. I had a room that didn't overlook the harbour so no views for me. The apartments at the back get the afternoon sun which is lovely. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped.

I was a little concerned about the security, it seemed anyone could walk in day or night and get up to any floor. I didn't have any trouble but it was something I noticed as a lone female traveller.

The swimming pool was the highlight and I really enjoyed my day by the pool overlooking the harbour. It doesn't get much afternoon sun though so best visited in the morning.

The hotel is very close to the ferries to Sydney which is excellent. North Sydney train station is about a 20min walk away uphill which can be unpleasant in hot Sydney weather. The shops and cafes on Blues Point Road are lovely and the Blues Point Deli is worth a visit.

We booked a "Lavender Bay" view apartment as all of the Harbour view apartments were fuly booked.

Paid a reasonable price considering the location and facilities.

The apartment had everything we needed, nicely decorated and the view was up to North Sydney and over a pretty bay full of boats.

We stayed for 5 days and got up each morning for a swim in the great pool that is right on the water's edge. There were great cafes up the road for brekkie.

Staff were really helpful as we hadn't been to Sydney before and they gave us some great tips on the best resturants to eat in the city & bars to go drinking at.

Ferry runs until about 11pm most nights so getting around wasn't a problem.
