This is pretty much the closest that you'll get to a 'pub' in sydney. For $7 a pint you get a pretty good locally brewed ale, in a variety of shades. Definitely worth a visit.

Stayed here with my brother in March - loved the location, the bar and the restaurant (great food). Would stay here again but our room was very small. We booked a twin room and the room we were given would have made an adequate single into which they'd obviously inserted an extra bed. It had a cupboard but no drawers that we could find and we had to keep one of our suitcases in the bathroom because of lack of floor space! When we complained the only response was a "sorry, we're fully booked".If you stay here make sure you get a room on the second floor (they're lovely) and not the third.
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our two-week honeymoon to Australia. We booked this hotel mostly because it seemed to be a great price and we liked the historic/pub aspect, and our expectations were exceeded. We had a beautiful corner room with three windows (plus another in the bathroom). The bathroom was spacious and nicely renovated, with granite counters and a fantastic shower, and the linens on the bed were perfect. Yes, we had to carry our suitcases up 3 flights of stairs, but that seemed like a small inconvenience for a hotel this nice, at such a great price in a perfect location in Sydney. It was a short walk to Circular Quay and the Opera House, so we loved the location. We would definitely recommend this hotel and/or stay there again. It is probably not ideal, however, for business travelers or people with small children.

ServiceWe stayed here the first two nights of a month-long trip to Australia, and liked it so much that we came back at the end of the stay for an additional 3 nights. Yes, it is hard to lug suitcases up the stairs, but the bar staff will usually do it for you when you arrive. The rooms are smallish, with spartan but pleasant decor and are very functional and neat. We loved the room fridge for our snacks and lunch items! The rooms are quiet, despite the bar below. However, on our return stay there was a reunion party one night in the restaurant below our room and it was very noisy. We were told that parties would be common through the holiday season, so be advised and bring earplugs if you travel during that time!
The pub meals are good and the beer was quite nice. The location is great - just 5 minutes to Circular Quay. We felt comfortable walking back from the Opera House at 10 at night. It was hard to beat a rate of $AU 180 for room and breakfast in a location this close to the city center.

Business serviceWe stayed in the Lord Nelson for 4 nights at the end of a trip to Australia. The hotel was lovely and we enjoyed our ensuite room at the top of the brewery. The stairs were a struggle to navigate at times, esp with suitcases so be warned! Our room had lovely skyline views of the Bridge, Darling harbour and Observatory hill.
Breakfast was lovely, excellent service every morning - def a boutique stay, something a little different from the average corporate hotel.
