We just returned from our 4 night stay at the Plaza Hotel in Mestre. We were very impressed with the hotel.
Location: The hotel is located in a great location directly across from the train station. Basically walk out the station, cross the street and it is right there. The number 2 bus going to Venice is across the street if you want to get to Venice that way instead of by train, both cost only 1 euro. The number 2 also drops you off right in front of the hotel in case you miss the last train out of Venice. The bus to the airport (2.50 euro) is just down the street and real easy to get to. The area is safe and we did not feel threatened by anything but then again, one is only crossing the street. We came back from Venice twice around midnight, both by train and bus and had no issues.
Check-in: The check-in was efficient and quick. They got us quickly to our room. We checked in around 1:30pm. English was widely spoken.
Room: The room was clean and spotless. The bathroom is large by European standards and probably even North American. Air conditioning worked well. The shower had good water pressure and no issues with running out of hot water. Our room faced the train station and the road but we did not hear any noise from either. We were on the sixth floor. At night, there did a turndown service for us and left us chocolates on the pillows.
Food: Breakfast was included in the deal and it was a great start to the day. It was a buffet breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, lots of fruit and pasteries, yogurt, cheese, cold cuts and coffee/juice. It was a steal of a deal. It saved us a ton of money and helped get us through a good chunk of the day.
Price: Booked on the website for 88 euros a night back in November. That is a great price, even including the extra 2 euros each to get to Venice each day by train/bus.
Summary: My wife and I both loved the hotel and would stay there again in the future. The travel time to get to Venice was short since all trains stop in Mestre to/from Venice. Believe me, crossing the street with bags is much easier than trying to lug them through Venice by boat and hunting for your hotel.
