“AVA Hotel Deserves Its Top Ratings”

AVA Hotel Athens

5 of 5 stars
Wichita, Kansas
Jun 9, 2008

Booked exclusively as a result of TripAdvisor ratings, and we are very glad we did! This is a fine little property, tucked away in the Plaka. Very quiet, modest room appointments, nothing fancy, but the staff were very friendly, helpful and professsional. The location was perfect for us, and would be for tourists interested in the shopping, walking and touring around the Acropolis. Highly recommended.

“Amazing!”

The AVA thought of everything. The staff was what you would expect (and probably not get) in the most expensive hotel in town. In the room they provided books on Greek mythology, Athens and a notebook that recommended "the best of" in the neighborhood. They even provided (on the night tables) cards with the hotel name on it so that if you got lost, you had all the info you needed. You also received a bottle of champagne.

The staff (Maria, in particular) really went out of her way to find us the best restaurant given our criteria. She gave us several suggestions - just in case - we wanted something different. The breakfasts weren't included and cost 12 euro each, but the food was excellent and varied. You could even squeeze your own fresh orange juice.

The location was great also. This hotel really was fabulous!

“Great Place to Stay in Athens”

AVA Hotel Athens

Jun 3, 2008

My wife and I stayed at the AVA for 3 nights in May, before travelling on for a further 3 nights on the island of Aegina. We really enjoyed our stay in Athens. The hotel was excellent, in a prime location to get to all the sights, and easy to reach great bars and restaurants further away from the Plaka area itself - the pedestrianised walkway leading up to the Acropolis and on to Thissio and beyond was just around the corner. From the hotel, Hadrian's Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus were at one end of the street and the Lisicrates Monument at the other. What really surprised, and impressed us, on arriving via Akropoli Metro at night, was how peaceful the area was, despite its proximity to everything - we were expecting Athens to be much busier and noisier than it turned out to be.

The hotel staff were very friendly, the room (on the ground floor) was a very good size with kitchen facilities, tea and coffee etc, and a chilled bottle of sparkling wine & chocolates waiting for us on arrival. Breakfast was good and we loved being able to come back after a hard day's sightseeing to sit out on the terrace and relax. All in all a very good stay and lovely hotel.

“Best location and service in a clean modern hotel”

AVA Hotel Athens

This small hotel is absolutely the best choice in Athens. AVA Hotel is modern, having been recently renovated. We opted for a small suite which has a balcony. To the left you can see Hadrian's arch and to the right you can see the Acropolis. This gives you a good indication that the hotel is centrally located. Everything is in walking distance with the Plaka only a few footsteps away. The service was first class including the bottle of Champagne which was in our room when we arrived. We received a complimentary breakfast buffet which was varied, plentiful and very tasty. We intend to stay here if we are ever lucky enough to go back to Athens.

“AVA lived up to expectations”

AVA Hotel Athens

5 of 5 stars
Charlottesville, VA
Jun 1, 2008

Stayed at AVA at the end of May. This was the last stop after a series of other cities (Dresden, Prague and Venice) where we had booked based on Tripadvisor reviews. We were upgraded to an Executive Suite since our booked regular apartment had been extended by a prior occupant. The co-owner of AVA is a Dutch woman who was very friendly and solicitous - always concerned that we were happy and that any information or recommendations we wanted were provided. The staff at all times of day/night were the same way. Be sure to book taxis through the hotel's recommended taxi company as we were taken to the cleaner's a bit coming in from the airport (which you may not be able to avoid since AVA can't provide airport pickup service). The taxis run on a meter but then have "add-ons" which are unspecified and, in our case, almost doubled the airport run. Cost from the airport should be about Euro 25-30. Location of hotel was perfect in Plaka - many good restaurants in the area. Talk to Cristina at the desk for recommendations in that department. Altho some have expressed reservations about breakfast, we found it more than adequate with a good selection of basic foods (scrambled eggs and sausage are also offered). If we return to Athens again, we would definitely return to AVA.
