“Wonderful Xmas in Brugge”

Cote Canal

5 of 5 stars
Netherlands
Dec 27, 2006

We had a great two night stay at this wonderful B&B. The owners did their best to accommodate all our requests and they even manage to find dinner reservation for Xmas eve, with two hours notice.
Decoration is really nice and rooms very comfortable.

Wow! What a great place. We picked this after reviewing it in trip advisor. First location - right on the canal. The photos from their web site do not lie. While we stayed there people were painting it from the other side of the canal. It is about 4 blocks from the city center and only about a $7 taxi ride from the train station. Caroline our hostess was fabulous, the breakfast a feast. The rooms are large although rather sparsely furnished. Everything is neat and spotless. The bathroom is new and clean. The house has been in her family for four generations. I could go on but it would seem like I am a ringer - and I'm not. It is just a great place and I highly recommend it to anyone staying in Brugge. No matter what room you choose they are all unique and wonderful.

“Exceptional”

Exceptional bed and breakfast from the warmth of the welcome from Caroline to the delightful suite to which we were shown; this property must enjoy arguably the best pitch in Bruges being set right on the canal near the centre yet in a quiet and peaceful location.

We stayed for three nights in the spacious Empire suite which overlooks the canal - cleanliness was immaculate and it was full of many thoughtful touches: good bath robes (nice to find in a B & B), mini bar/fridge, magazines (even some in English) and a wonderful fly screen which kept the mosquitos at bay whilst letting the fresh air in at night. Our only observations were that we got low on soap by the third night and had no luggage rack for our suitcases.

Breakfast was wonderful and the trouble taken to get such a variety of breads, all of which were delicious, was much appreciated as were all the little extras/nibbles - and breakfast can be taken outside either on the terrace or right beside the canal.

All in all, this professionally run property represented excellent value and together with the warmth of the hospitality it could not fail to please the most decerning of travellers.

“Paradise!”

We stayed 3 nights in this wonderful place in which we were warmly received. Everything is perfect, from the place location to the decoration without forgetting the breakfast and others services. But more than anything else, the owners make this place unique as they truly enjoy and do more than their best making your stay be the best ever. We stayed with our two childrens aged 5 years and 10 months and in addition to the above I can say that staying with young childrens is not a problem at all as suites are large and so quiet.
We strongly recommend this place to anyone.

“Wonderful, gorgeous, fantastic!”

Cote Canal

I’ll start by saying that there is no reason why Cote Canal (Huyze Hertsberge) shouldn’t occupy the number one spot in this list. It truly is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Brugge. People argue that location isn’t an issue when visiting the town, due to it’s small and intimate nature. However, people that say that haven’t had the pleasure of staying in this gorgeous guesthouse. It’s true, location doesn’t matter when it comes to walking around the city, but how many places can boast a quiet, beautiful, canal side location... With the private garden right next to the canal edge? This is not Cote Canal’s only trump card. A truly personal and private feel, with a beautiful hostess, Caroline. I won’t echo the comments made my the other guests in their own reviews – read them all, and you will get the same message, Cote Canal is a great place to stay.

Oh, and how could I forget Fido (sic?), the infamous ‘window dog’ of the canal trips!

It is the least I can do to recommend this guest house to other people. Don’t hesitate over booking Cote Canal. No need to consider busy hotels. Forget about whatever it is that is stopping you from booking this guesthousel – I’m confident you will be inspired to right a similar review when you return from your stay there.

[In fact, we enjoyed it so much my wife went back just one week later!]
