My wife and I stayed there for one night in the "dependenza," a building toward the back of the main hotel. It was recommended that we do that by our Rick Steve's tour book. The rooms there were newer. We enjoyed our stay. The room was modern, with a good size bed, and well light space. the bathroom was clean and modern, with lots of room. Breakfast was served in a separate building (about 6 euro per person). It was well worth it, with a good selection of fruits, danish, croissants, breads, cereals, toast, juices, coffees. The front desk staff was very helpful, and the location is great, right next to the Basilica. It is easy to get to from the train station, either by bus or tram, about a 10 minute ride. There is as special mini-bus that runs from the Basilica to the station. The only negative to our stay was that there seemed to be a fair number of mosquitos in the area, and unless you were willing to close the windows (with no screens), you couldn't really avoid them. Since the AC was not yet available, the room got a bit stuffy.
