“Really good hotel”

Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz

5 of 5 stars
Tavistock, United Kingdom
May 31, 2008

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Yes, it's big but the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was fab with U and S bahn and bus stations on your doorstep. Alexanderplatz itself doesn't have much to offer, but you're within close walking distance of some lovely areas for bars and restaurants. My room was on the 26th floor and looked out onto the telecom mast - a brilliant view! It was a fair size, nicely furnished and decorated, and very clean. Having read the reviews about the shower situation I was a bit concerned, but in fact the frosted glass was perfectly adequate at providing cover: though perhaps not for the very shy. No bath which is always a minus. The breakfast was very good - a really wide choice of hot and cold dishes, though it was a bit busy at peak times. It's the best hotel I've stayed in in Berlin, and the deal I got was reasonable - shop around for a discount site.

“Good hotel”

Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz

May 28, 2008

Stayed in the hotel for five nights in April and found it an excellent modern well run hotel. Location was excellent with friendly and helpful front of house staff. Our room which was cleaned daily was comfortable, although the view was onto a rather large building site although this should be gone in a few months. Bathroom privacy could be a problem with some people as only a curtain and some slightly opaque glass seperated the bed and washing areas from the toilet.
Breakfast was not included in the room price and was on the expensive side however the food-hall in the Kaufhof Department store just across the street served an excellent cheap breakfast.
All in all the hotel was very good value for money.

“A mature view”

Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz

May 28, 2008

We visited the hotel in early May as part of a group travelling through Germany on the railways.

Vast difference of expectations within our group - we were happy with our room (which did have a bath), but it was not acceptable for some of our group who were mature & well travelled. The configuration of the rooms (bath/shower curtained off from the bedroom) was quite unacceptable for mature couples and friends sharing.

On the plus side - the position was great - public transport excellent - even the Berlin Tour Bus picked up at the hotel.
The hotel was next door to the SBan train station.

Breakfast was OK (we have travelled extensively and judge a hotel by it's breakfast )- so even though this was pretty good, it was not excellent.

The great recommendation was the service - our TV reception broke down at 17.00 on Sat evening - and reception could not fix it. We had almost accepted that we were going to give up - but the maintenance guy called in - diagnosed the problem and disppeared at 5pm on a bank holiday Saturday. We assumed that was it for the weekend - but 50 mins later, he knocked on the door with the required replacement part. In the UK - you would undoubtable have been left until after the weekend.

Full marks to the hotel for service.

One black mark - In the bar I paid 16.50 Euros for a large glass of red wine described as 'Californian'by the waitress which at the current exchange rate was approx. £12. The price was not offered when I ordered, and the following day I checked the price list which proved it was correct. However - I still feel cheated.

Do not discount this hotel - we travelled as part of a pre-booked group, and found the whole service excellent.

Give it a try.

Judith/Mike

“Don't Stay Here!!!”

Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz

New York, NY

At first I was happy with my stay until a the last night before my departure from Berlin when I could not withdraw any money from my account! It turns out that the hotel <<blocks>> the amount of money of your stay PLUS a 100 euros for the mini bar in your account WITHOUT telling you!! The problem is that I specifically asked when checking in if any money will be deducted from my card and they said NO. So You can imagine when I was shocked that 750 dollars had disappeared from my checking account during my stay there. The hotel not only didn't realize the severity of the problem that this may create for some travelers, especially if one is traveling alone... but they also proceeded to NOT compensate me for even one nights stay or offer to make my stay more pleasant. Not only these things happened to me during my stay but my friends bathroom flooded his room and the hotel was not so keen on the idea of him changing rooms even though his entire carpet floor was soaking wet! In all , you pay for the location, so don't expect anything special at this hotel.... just a cheap room with a good view. Overall, unpleasant experience.
