“Will definitely stay here again!!”

Hotel le Senat

My husband and I stayed in Le Senat hotel for 4 nights from 23rd to 27th March 07. This was our second time at the hotel, having stayed there for a few nights in 2004. The hotel was well situated, only 10 minutes from the Saint Germain area and all its restaurants, yet on a quiet, safe side-street. Our room was very comfortable with a queen-size bed, desk and chair, TV on the wall, and decent sized bathroom. The room which overlooked the street below had a balcony, and plenty of light filled the room. On a downside there was no full-length mirror in the room (perhaps more important for us girls!) and there was only one english speaking channel on the TV (CNN) as the BBC channel didn't work. The hot and cold buffet breakfast which was served in the basement of the hotel was ok, although if I were to stay here again I would pick up something in one if the many brasseries nearby. The hotel was very clean, with a modern contempory decor. In contrast to some other visitors who have provided reviews we found the hotel staff to be very polite and friendly; the reception staff were helpful in providing us with tourist maps and advised us on nearby metro stations. In terms of getting we used the Metro and found a pack of 10 tickets (priced just over Euro 10) to go a long way. The nearest Metro stop is Odeon which is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Recommended restaurants nearby include Les Editeurs and Le Comptoir (both beside the Odeon metro stop). Le Coupe-Chou (11 Rue to Lanneau) is also highly recommended. Overall, we had a very comfortable stay and would definitely stay here again.

“Nice location, clean hotel and helpful stuff”

Nice clean rooms. Good breakfast. Excellent location. Stuff spoke good English and was helpful.

I had an odd problem with key card not working on first try on few occasions. I did not want to wait for them to change lock and moved to the next room. I assume that was a fluke.

“Good Location, nice but not great value”

We stayed here for 3 nights recently> We booked a deluxe room , without breakfast, which cost 255 Euro /night. This is a nice hotel, with stylish modern decor and well-kept rooms. Some of the rooms are very cramped , however, even the junior suites. The deluxe room we ended up with was of a reasonable size but not large, with a nice terrace facing inwards, so light was poor and no view. The bed was 180cm wide and excellent. The bathroom was satisfactory and clean but very normal and the seperate toilet was very cramped. Service from reception was friendly and helpful. Ovarall this was a comfortable , pleasant place to stay but for the price I expected more - eg bigger rooms, better bathrooms, breakfast. There did not seem to be many advantages to staying here over some of the much cheaper 2 star hotels in the area, which can also be very nice.

“We won't be back!”

After reading the amazing reviews on this website, I booked a one night stay at this hotel with my boyfriend, for a weekend stopover on our way back to London from the south of France. Reading these reviews is where the pleasure ended.

On arrival the staff barely acknowledged us - let alone smiled or made us feel welcome. I booked this hotel above many other glowing recommendations in the city in the hope of getting a balcony room - which we did get in the end - but there was no promise one would be available (why not, I wonder, if you're prepared to pay for it?) and the staff managed to make me feel as though I was being rude for even asking.

On being shown to the room, I was surprised at how small it was, given the price we were paying. I know Paris rooms are small generally, but you could barely get round the bed, and clearly we were not paying for charming service. Admittedly the bed was super-comfy, but I'm afraid I ask more of a hotel than a comfy bed. That evening a downpour arrived out of nowhere just as we were leaving for dinner - the receptionist reluctantly attempted to obtain a taxi for us, and when it was clear nothing would be coming (I know - such is Paris) we asked if we could borrow an umbrella...but this was obviously asking too much...the lady told us they had none to lend but would be prepared to sell us one instead!! Crazy - I do really wonder what we paid for. The sour nature of the staff carried on the next day, when we checked out - as early as we could.

I wonder if the hotel didn't like our sort (we arrived early off an overnight train and used the hotel facilities to change and freshen up - our room wasn't ready), we are young, we didn't have matching Louis Vuitton luggage, and we laughed as we came in from the rain, quite late at night. I have lived in Paris before and know it very well - admittedly not as a tourist - but I was amazed by the attitude of the staff here.

I advise you to pay less and have the prospect of a decent welcome from the staff - or even pay more and put up with snooty staff in return for a decent room. I have no idea who this hotel is aiming itself at, but clearly it's not me or any of my friends or colleagues, all of whom I will urge to stay well clear!

“Stylish, expensive, friendly staff”

We spent 3 days for our 10th Wedding Anniversary in the Le Sénat. After our initial shock at the tiny room, although we did have a Queen sized bed and a small sofa, we appreciated the stylish decor and immaculate linens and bathroom. Like many other reviewers we found the Hotel staff very helpful and friendly - mutli-lingual and generous with their time. We did pay Euro 330.- per night which I feel is excessive for November even in Paris. It included the breakfast which has good quality food but appalling service. The location is fantastic and if you are a book-lover especially interesting. We ate at Le Petit Cour, about a 10 minute walk from the Hotel, which we found sensational. The restaurant right next door we can also highly recommend. We would definitely stay here again but perhaps feel that we were getting better value for money at a slightly lower rate. There are afterall an abundance of Hotels and as many reviewers have pointed out spending time in the room is not a high priority.
