“Take advantage of the room service”

Northampton Marriott Hotel

Me and my boyfriend stayed there on a Saturday night as part of a romantic weekend away. We were checked in and found our room. Nice and clean with a comfy bed and our window looked out on to a patch of grass with dozens of rabbits running around.
We took advantage of room service and place our order for a full English the next morning. We also ordered room service for dinner. It was very nice although a little over priced. We bought are own wine with us which we were glad of as it was very over priced! We had a lovely evening and have no complaints
In the morning we did have a few problems. There was a burst water main near by so the water was cut of to the whole hotel. When I phoned down to reception to ask what was wrong they were very blunt and unhelpful. Breakfast arrived on time as was lovely nice and hot the only thing was the croissants were not very fresh but we had plenty of other food. Checkout is by 12o/c and at about 110/c a cleaner came in to our room without even knocking which was a bit of a shock! She didn't apologise but quickly shut the door and left. Checkout was smooth but I was expecting an apology re the water situation as it was still not back on, we couldn't shower or use the leisure facilities like we had planned.
All in all a good stay and I have received a letter from the manager offering a complementary nights stay as I wrote to complain about the water/cleaner. We will be happy to stay there again and would recommend it it other people.

“Oh Dear! Should of gone to Hilton!”

I was always under the impression that Marriott hotels were very good quality hotels, well I dont think they are after my stay at Northampton! The members of staff looked very tired and didn't seem to know what they were doing! I was given a standard room (thats very over rated, more like economy!) The wallpaper was coming off the walls, and the rooms were to say the least dated! I stupidly decided to eat in the restaurant, it was so overpriced. I ordered a steak, it was tough and very untasty, I had a small dessert, a cheescake, I recieved a very smal peice with a sticky summer fruit sauce, not pleasant and incredibly over priced. I returned to my room feeling rather sick!!!! I must say though that the bed in my room was very comfy and I should of got a very good nights sleep, but my room was on the ground floor very close to the road, even with the window closed I could hear cars rushing past! Therefore I watched TV for most of the night! At around 9.00am I was rudely awakened by a maid, my DO NOT DISTURB sign was attached to the door so I was angry at her coming in! My breakfast arrived shortly afterwards, it was plain and unappetising, but it filled me up. I left the hotel early as I couldnt put up with anymore! I was suprised at all of this because Marriott in America is very nice, why? because its owned by Marriott, in the UK its owned by Whitbread! What a cheak, is sold as Marriott when it dosnt live up to the standards! Nevertheless im staying at Hiltons home and abroad from now on and I advise you to aswell!

“Near perfection”

Northampton Marriott Hotel

We were visiting for a rugby match, then got to thinking that a stay over would be a treat. That combined with a birthday & seeing an upgrade to a premier room with escape dinner package available - thought decision made!

If coming through on the M1 hotel will be very easy to find, us coming from across town got completely lost. It was only 5 miles but took us over an hour, can't blame the hotel for this - although the map I printed off still didn't make sense when we finally got there.

Check in was perfect, no problem in changing the time of our table in the restuarant (due to us arriving later than intended). All staff through out the stay were very cheery and helpful. Premier room with jacuzzi bath was indeed a real treat - loved it! Everywhere very clean. Ice machine available along the corridor to fill up the ice bucket in the room, little things like that go a long way. Meal in the restaurant was probably the best we've had in a long time, atmopshere not really buzzing but we enjoy our own company so didn't find this a problem. Being there without the dining package could make the meal an expensive one (fillet steak I think was £20) but with the quality of the food it wouldn't have caused any issues for us. Breakfast was busy (which reception has warned us of when checking in) but still got a table and PLENTY of food available, all looking fresh and tasting good.

Swimming pool is small, did intend to laze a couple of hours away there before checking out but when you have a jacuzzi bath in a fantastic room - why bother! All in all, totally recommend this hotel. Have never stayed at a marriott before so can't say if this is a little gem, or just the basis of all marriott hotels? When ever we are back in Northampton will stay here again.

“Clearly a well-run hotel”

Northampton Marriott Hotel

Aug 17, 2006

I haven't stayed in a "chain" hotel in ages, so was fearing the worst from the Northampton Marriott. However, I am glad to say it surpassed all of my expectations. The people who work here clearly care about providing a good service and generally doing a good job. The hotel, whilst not the height of cutting-edge fashion, is really comfortable and most important of all clean - something which should be a given but is often not. My bedroom was not huge but had lots of amenities, such as broadband, iron, fridge, good toiletries, nice quilt on the bed and comfy mattress. Most suprising was the scrupulous cleanliness of all areas and very careful housekeeping. My room was spotless and everything worked! The food was presented with care, room service came on time, even the notorious breakfast buffet was fresh and appealing. The only (very minor) criticisms I can make are that the burger I had for dinner was slightly overcooked and the dubious £2.50 "tray charge" added to already-ambitious room service charges. But these are minor flaws that shouldn't put you off a stay in a fantastically-run, comfortable hotel.
