My husband and I just got back from the Aventura Spa Palace. I will have to say that the resort is utterly beautiful! The buildings are great, gym is state-of-the-art, the spa is awesome, pools are huge, and the rooms are really nice (2-person jacuzzi). The only thing that might concern people is the fact that the food is mass produced and not that great, and there is no "real" beach. Breakfast and lunch is buffet-style. They custom make omlettes and eggs for you, have fruit, pancakes and tons of side items. Lunch is pretty much the same. Variety is great but the food is not as fresh as other smaller resorts I have been to. Don't get me wrong, it was NOT terrible, it was merely fair.
There is no beach, but a man-made lagoon that is really nice as the water is calm and you can snorkel and see fish. There is a wall that separates the ocean from the lagoon. My husband saw the beach in Playa del Carmen and wished we would have stayed at a hotel that had a real beach. The pool and beach chairs do not recline all the way up or down and were somewhat uncomfortable. Overall, the facilities cannot be beat by any other hotel. There is tons of stuff to do (workout, tennis, use spa facility, sit in the courtyard and drink). Night time activities are also fair, as the shows end by 10 or 11 and the disco is open til 1. There are many restaurants but I found the mexican restaurant to be the best and the oriental restaurant has OK sushi and spring rolls. I am not sure if I would go back to this resort, in that I would rather stay at a resort that has a beach, and would rather pay for my own meals and have them be great, instead of just fair.
