“Best Vacation Ever!!!!”

Desire Resort & Spa

May 15, 2008

My husband and I were looking for an adult getaway. We figured if we are taking a trip without our kids, we surely don't want to be around other people's kids. When I typed in adult only resorts, Desire came up with rave reviews. We had never been to a clothing optional resort (never even thought about it) so I was a little nervous.

Turns out I was nervous for no reason at all. It is a little awkward at first but you get over it within minutes. The other guests at the resort were so friendly and easy going. We even made some friends that we are keeing in touch with. It took a couple of days before we were comfortable going top or bottomless but once we did, it was so relaxing.

The food there was great, I loved the sushi restaurant the most. They had a special Mediterranean Buffet on Saturday night that was fabulous.

The staff there is outstanding, best service we've ever had anywhere. Rosio is the best event coordinator without a doubt. She has a great personality, even talked me into modeling my bikini (hey I figured I would never see these people again). Javier and Charlie were great too, kept us entertained the whole trip.

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a truly relaxing experience.

“The Most Relaxing and Romantic Getaway”

Desire Resort & Spa

Apr 29, 2008
6/7 found this review helpful

We went to Desire in Cancun on our Honeymoon three years ago and decided to give the one in Los Cabos a try this time (March 08). While we had an absolutely wonderful time, we did enjoy the one in Cancun a bit more (but then again, we were on our Honeymoon ;) Desire will always be our top vacation destination. Everything you want in a relaxing, romantic vacation can be had at Desire. We will always go "all-inclusive." You know that everything is paid for and there's just no hassle with money or any reminders what the vacation costs. That having been said, we always like to take $40-50 in single bills to give to the staff over the course of 5 days. We leave a few dollars on the table for the waiter and tip the barstaff (especially when they brought us a frozen drink without even being asked!) You don't have to tip, but I think it makes a huge difference- and the staff truly seem to appreciate it. From the glass of champagne upon check-in, the service is top-notch. Don't forget to have them put your club bracelet on your ankle (much less annoying than on you wrist!!!)

The rooms at Desire are wonderful- much newer and nicer than the ones in Cancun. Our room had a very tasteful Kama Sutra piece of art on the walls. The bed was very comfortable (again, much more so than Cancun). The mini-fridge (which is, of course, included) is always well stocked with the basics. Being Desire, we also thought it very hot that there was an adult channel on the television that played a "Desire-appropriate" film the whole time. We just wish they would change the film from time to time, as they played the same one the whole time we were there! On the downside, none of the rooms (except for the $$$ rooms) have an ocean view- which brings me to my next point. . .

The beach in Los Cabos is not nearly as nice as the one in Cancun :( Unlike Cancun, it is occupied by a bunch of other resorts, and you can't be naked. Also, you really aren't supposed to swim in the water (due to nasty undercurrents that warrant a black flag. . .) We saw a couple be confronted by Desire staff because the female was topless on the beach and they were attempting to swim in the ocean (while a bunch of other beach-goers looked and gawked). One of the things we loved so much about Cancun was that you could be naked on a beach bed. This is not the case at Desire Los Cabos.

We thought the food and drinks at Los Cabos were just as good as Cancun. It's not super-gourmet, but it's always very enjoyable.
Strangely enough, we liked the poolside grill the most. Steak, chicken, fish, and hamburgers all made to order when you want- with fresh salsa and many other things to choose from! The deserts at dinner, however, never blew me away.

Desire Los Cabos is a much shorter ride from the airport than Desire Cancun, but you don't feel nearly as secluded. There are large barrier walls covered in green that block the view from the other resorts, which I suppose is needed.

The gym facilities are decent at Desire. We always like to work up an appetite by hitting the gym in the morning- that way you don't feel as bad when you eat the wonderful food all day long ;) There are several pieces of cardio equipment, some machines, and free weights. The only thing they really needed was a free weight bench!!! The mint water that they had in a pitcher outside the gym was a nice touch and always very pleasant after a work-out.

While we were there in March, the days were very nice (and hot!) It never rains!!! The nights, however, do get quite cold. There are gas firepits all over the resort that are turned on at night to heat it up a bit. We did eat outside one night and get the chills because the gas heating lamps weren't working very well.

Overall, Desire completely fulfilled our expectations. We are in our late 20s, and have never felt intimidated or uncomfortable at Desire. You do have to be open-minded and comfortable around the naked human form. This time, we actually met two nice couples who were our own age and had dinner together! If you want to take a trip to paradise where you can go naked and just relax- Desire is the place to be!!!

“Great Fun, Great Staff, Food Needs Help”

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Desire in late April. We had a terrific time. The resort definately lives up to its reputation. Resort was clean, the room was very nice, we splurged on the Passion Suite, the staff and the overall service was terrific. The resorts one down fall is its food. The food at Suki was fine, but we were disapointed in the other two. Lunch seems to be a real problem, too bad you cant just get a sandwich somewhere. These are minor complaints. We plan on returning as soon as we can.

“loved it”

My boyfriend and I just came back from spending five nights at Desire. We really loved it. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff is great. The food is really good with much variety. There are a few restaurants that are open different nights. You do not need reservations just walk in. The evening entertainment is okay and the disco is fun but dies out quickly. We had fun dressing for the theme of each night and most everyone dressed up as well.

We rented a car and it came in handy for traveling into Cabo San Lucas each day to shop or the clubs at night. We would have paid much more for transportation to and from airport and a taxis the multiple times we went to Cabo.

“Too cold for fun”

Desire Resort & Spa

We had stayed at Deisre Cancun and enjoyed it. We thought we would try Los Cabos - a major mistake. It is nothing like Cancun.

First of all its freezing cold at night. The only bars are open air and its impossible to sit in them without jackets blankets etc. this is not an exception - its always cold here in the winter.

Even the disco is freezing - it has open holes for windows and the icy wind blew in. We found it impossible to stay there. It was even cold during several of the days we stayed there - an icy wind blowing off the sea.

To add to the misery on three separate occasions there was no hot water for showers. That is a disgrace Several people went down with chills and colds while we were there. Freezing cold is not really a seductive atmosphere.

The hotel needs indioor bars and some heating for the entertainment areas. There ar patio heaters but they are inadequate and were often out of gas - nobody did anything about it. The only indoor area in the whole is the "Japanese" restaurant

The rooms are small but pleasant and very well cleaned. Strangely there is no door on the bathrooms. There is no form of heating in the rooms and they were cold.

The food is nothing like as good as Cancun. Boring , the same thing every day and nothing like the quality at Cancun. The Mexican buffet has nothing vaguely Mexican about it - not an enchillada, quesadilla or burrito in sight. just meat grilled in awful cheap corn oil and various "stews" There is one less reataurant than in Cancun - iand they sometimes use the pool bar as an extra restaurant. But its open air and freezing at night.

The hotel was about 50% occupied moist of the time we were there but there were still not enough beds - people were lying on concrete walls to sunbathe. You cant go naked on the beach and the sea is too cold and too dangerous to swim in -unlike Cancun where the resort is right on the beach and they have a beach bar as well a [ better] pool bar. Many of beds at Los Cabos are at the back of the pool bar and you have a view of the back of the restaurant. and abig green fence

The disco is grungy and the lighting there is terrible. The cocktail waitress went around in long thick trousers a padded jacket and a hair net.. Not really seductive.

I agree with all the comments about the staff. They are excellent and friendly though one or two of the grill cooks should be taught to smile.

The managment though is something else. If I owned this place [ and i was in the hospitality business for many years] ,the general manager and the head chef would be gone.in a heartbeat

It might be better in the summer - but somehow I doubt it

It may be helpful to note that the owners theselves desribe Cancun as " a five start resort" but Los Cabos as merely "upscale"

If you want a wonderful sexy seductive resort by all means go to Desire - but the one in Cancun not Los Cabos.
