“Safe and Peaceful!”

Posada Sirena

We stayed in the Casa Grande with a kitchen and more than enough room for our family of 4. Traveling with kids can be stressful, so showing up at Sirena's was the best thing we could have done! We felt completely welcome, cared for, all our needs attended to, and Sirena somehow knew just what would put the frosting on the cake for our vacation. She arranged for our son to meet some of the kids in the village and they had a great time playing together. She arranged a wonderful boat tour when we were ready, taking special care to get a boat with an awning so our baby would have shade, and the skipper even held our baby while we went snorkeling! Almost as soon as we arrived Sirena explained where everything in the town was so that we would feel at home and know where to go to get the things we needed. Another thing we loved was getting to know this amazing woman through her book of incredible adventures, shipwrecks, Amazon treck, and spiritual journey to where she finally landed in Punta Allen! (There is one in each accomodation) The thing we had the hardest time with was allowing ourselves to relax enough and trust enough to let her care for us! We were planning to spend only 5 nights in Punta Allen, and ended up staying twice as long. It took us the first 5 days just to get relaxed, the next 5 days were truely fabulous!
If you are expecting a 5 star accomodation, find a 5 star hotel.
If you want a low key, home grown, loving atmosphere in a sleepy Mayan village by the sea, Posada Sirena is the place to be.

Punta Allen is a fascinating place, and we loved our experiences of the local people and nature there. However, we feel it is important to let travellers know what they will be really experiencing when they take the time and trouble to journey to Posada Sirenas. Initially the owner is friendly and welcoming. This is not a b&b and should not be listed under b&b'/Inns. We were never offered breakfast but told where we could go to get it. We were asked to pay in full up front, which was a mistake on our part as we left a day early and were told that the owner had already spent the money/didn't have it to give back to us. This despite having a buiider in early in the morning to build an extension. We met some wonderful fellow travellers there. All of us interestingly had the same negative experiences. The two other people we met who stayed there at the same time as us were promised coffee in the am, but never got it. When we asked for some (having offered to make tea or coffee for us in the mornings the first day we arrived) the owner boiled some water then handed us the cups and jar of instant coffee to make it ourselves. We did stay in the cheapest palapa and weren't expecting too much for the price, but were not too happy that the outside bathroom we had use of was never cleaned. The bin where the toilet paper is thrown was not emptied once, and after three days with exceptionally high humidity and heat, the smell was getting too much. The electricity in Punta Allen goes off at midnight, which is part of its charm. However, it will be getting 24hr electricity in the next little while according to the locals. At this time of year (mid July) this will be a benefit at night as with no fan, and no cross breeze in the palapa, we really suffered with the heat. We checked out a day early for this reason. Importantly we should add that the palapa was filthy. The mosquito nets were too dirty and smelt too much to let down and use. There was very little privacy, and we felt quite exposed when changing, going to bed etc. My pillow cases and sheets may have been clean and perhaps just not used in a while, but they seemed to have old stains etc. on them, and were covered in dust/dirt.
We are very used to camping conditions, roughing it etc. and love the fun of it, but think that when you are offering a particular service and charging for it, you should fulfill that service. We did have some great experiences, the owner arranged our trip out to the reef, which was wonderful. We met fantastic new friends and spent time with them on the local deserted beach, at the reef and having dinner with them. We encourage anyone to visit Punta Allen, it is an outpost of a fascinating area, just research thoroughly where you plan to stay.

Go to Sirena's
If you like:

Barefoot versus sandals
Stunning deserted beaches
Feeling safe, surrounded by a beautiful garden
Crystal clear, blue Caribbean water
Snorkeling near the 2nd largest barrier reef right off the coast
Loggerhead turtles
Colorful birds
Dolphins swimming in the wild
Hammocks
Thatched roofs
And best of all, an intriguing and beautiful hostess, the mermaid, Sirena!

“Pure Relaxation and Exciting Adventures”

Posada Sirena

Posada Sirena is a haven in the heart of Punta Allen...where the hands of a clock move like cold molasses. A place where peace on Earth does exist, and peace in your soul can be replenished. You can fall asleep with a smile on your face (I have pictures to prove it) in a hammock in the garden outside your palapa hut, and let the breeze in the coconut leaves blow your cares away. With the waves in the background, I entered R and R mode faster than I ever have. But that doesn't mean there wasn't activity. It was everywhere! Sirena is the most amazing hostess who arranged snorkeling, boating, fishing, and canoeing for me and my friends. She is a very beautiful and rich spirit whose well of adventure runs deep. And like the lighthouse on the tip of the peninsula guiding the boats back in, it is genuinely positive energy like Sirena's that makes me - and anyone who has experienced Posada Sirena - want to go back again.

“Posada Sirena is Fantastic!”

My wife and I and a few friends spent our vacation in Punta Allen at Posada Sirena, and after six days, it was very difficult to leave. The village is largely untouched by tourism, yet has everything that one needs to be comfortable, including great food and drinks on the beach and friendly, welcoming residents. At the Posada, guests stay in one of the rustic and comfortable cabanas scattered around Sirena's beautiful tropical garden. One can walk 3 minutes to the beach, spend a day fishing with a local guide, snorkel the reef, observe wildlife in the mangroves, explore the village, or simply enjoy the garden sanctuary. While relaxing under the palm and almond trees, spend some time getting acquainted with Sirena, a warm, helpful, outgoing person with fascinating experiences to share. And when the mood strikes you, walk over to the tortilla shop. Or to the bakery to pick up some warm French bread. The doughnut vendor often stops by the Posada on his bicycle in the afternoon, and it is not unusual for a village resident to visit Sirena's garden offering fresh-baked goods. The combination of tropical beach, great fishing, Mayan village culture, and Sirena's hospitality make this place truly special. I highly recommend Posada Sirena to anyone.
