October 14th thru the 19th - upper 80's low 90's - great breeze - all inclusive upgrade for $79pp/nt - food is adequate, but so overpriced you have to go AI - Hotel is terrific, great rooms, staff is terrific, nice beach lots of pools - I hope it survived Wilma

Monday it was a tropical storm, Tuesday a category 3 and bigger then Katrina tracking between the Yucatan and Cuba - Wednesday when we left a category 5 170mph winds and just 200 miles away - I hope Moises our beachfront waiter and Michael Jordan fan survived the storm and his family is well -

I hope Cancun recovers quickly - the Omni is a fantastic hotel and Sr. Balesteri should be proud

Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas

I stayed at the Omni for 4 nights in October 2005. It was my first visit to Cancun and I chose the Omni because the price was reasonable and in part because of the positive recommendations on this site, so thought I should chime in.

The Omni was just what had hoped for: a comfortable, welcoming hotel in an exquisite setting with nice attention to detail in design and service.

My "garden view" room had a patio with a pleasant view of the pool but also offered a nice glimpse of the sea. The room itself was spacious, clean and quiet. There are three pools with plenty of lounge chairs (at least for the off-season), a jacuzzi, and a beachside bar, restaurant and sitting area with lovely landscaping that blend nicely with the setting.

The beach in Cancun was narrower than I expected and there was a line of low rocks where the surf breaks, but from what I saw of other hotels' beaches the Omni's was one of the best.

I was interested in sampling some local fare so my package only included breakfast, which was a vast - and delicious - mix of American and Mexican/Yucatecan fare. The El Centro part of Cancun is easily accessible by bus and has some wonderful, fun restaurants that seem to be overshadowed by the large, commerical places in the hotel zone. My meal and the overall experience at Labna, near Parque las Palapas, stacked up to the best I've had in New York or San Francisco.

The Omni staff, especially the host and servers at breakfast, were very knowledgable, helpful and courteous and completely lacking in pretention. They are bilingual but I felt that even my very halting attempts at Spanish were welcome and deepened my experience. It's well worth the effort to learn a few phrases before you go.

I can't comment on what it would be like in the high season (it was only 30-40% full when I was there) but everyone I saw seemed to be having a great time - singles, couples and families. I would definitely go back.

I won the trip to Omni Cancun and I am so happy I Did. It was great. The staff was great. The hotel was very clean. It is easy to get around but if you have a hard time walking steps I will warn if you go to the beach you have to walk up alot of steps to get back to the resort. They do have ramps to walk up as well. The beach there is great. I just LOVED the Jacuzzi Swim up bar. On the other side they had swinging chairs. It was great.

For calling cards they are $15.00 if you buy them there. That $15.00 card lasts 40 min. Otherwise you can go across the street and get a calling card for half the price. When you make a call from your room it's $.50 a call.

The bus system is slick. $.65 a bus ride. They bring you all around Cancun. If you want to spend a day at Playa Del Carmen take the bus from in front of Omni and take that to the BUS STATION in Cancun which you will then transfer to another bus which is $3.00pp. We almost didn't get off the bus to switch buses and a local women helped us. Taking the buses are much cheaper then the taxis.

I am glad I went to Playa Del Carmen but if I were to do it again I would rather not shop there unless I am staying in a resort down there. (By Playa) If your staying in Cancun shop in Cancun. It was actually cheaper. It is a 1 1/2 transfer each way. So it takes alot of your day. We were also only there for 3 nights. If we were there for a week it would have been better.

I just love Cancun. The water was beautiful!! I did not think I would like Cancun much but I did. It was just beautiful.

The Omni does close alot at 6PM. They have one bar open and that's in the lobby. They do have transfers to a different nightclub every night. You pay $35.00 and they take you there in a bus and you get in before the rest of the paople standing in line. That $35.00 includes your trands (TO) the club (Not back) and it includes all your drinking. You do need to take a taxi back. So there is little to do at night at the Omni.

The food was great. All of it. Room service was great! It was just a great hotel. The pools were great. The location was great. They really care about there guests there. Hurricane Wilma is coming and the waves were getting bigger already. That was gt=reat. The have alot of warning signs up for us not to go into the water. They were just a very caring staff.

It is upper class but everyone is so nice that stayed here. You get a mix of alot of people. I would say it was much more of a couples resort and family resort. Not much for the younger crowd.

I am a travel agent and would be happy to send my clients here.

Thank you -

My husband and I are in our early 30's and enjoy good service and quality. My husband travels a lot and usually stays in the Ritz or the Marriot Hotels. This hotel is not a Ritz, and it’s a bit old but it won't disappoint you. The hotel is great for families as well as people who just want to relax on a vacation. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the hotel is kept well clean. The staff is very professional, works very hard, and goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The food is excellent in the Da Vinci restaurant, my husband and I ate there every night. Pina Colada has great grill shrimp, and La Paloma is just average. We really enjoy the pool with the roman style bath seats and the pool bar next to the beach. The pools are shallow about 4ft but you can still enjoy a swim. The beach is beautiful, but is not suitable for swimming, as is not in the entire coast. We highly recommend a massage right under the pool area, you can relax and enjoy the ocean breeze..ahhh. The hotel is conveniently located in the hotel zone. You can either catch a taxi for $7.00 downtown or walk right to the bus stop right outside the hotel and take the bus. We will recommend taking the bus that is blue and says One, it costs $1.00, regular buses has no AC and it costs $.60 cents. Anybody who approaches you to sell a time share is not hotel staff, but various tour operators’ representatives who try to sell you tours or time shares. If you are not interested just say NO, thanks and they won't bother you. Otherwise, if you decide to listen, they will take 2 hours of your time and give you free discounts. I did some great scuba diving in Cozumel with Aquatours, they have a small operation located inside the hotel. My husband golf at the Hilton Hotel, we thought the golf was to overprice, but you can golf until you drop. We drove by the other golf courses in Cancun, but did not like them at all. We hear the golf course at the Moon palace is great too. The hotel will ask you to sign for everything you order, but all prices are in $ mexican pesos, not $ dollars. Lastly, I will recommend to see a sunset in Isla Mujeres, you can take the ferry for $15.00 round trip at the embarcadero. Once there, you can rent a golf cart very cheap. Hope my review helps.
