We went to Cancun Plaza with a bit of trepidation based on web reviews of the condo and warnings of the general damage in Cancun from Wilma. We prepared ourselves for the worst, and I think as a result ended up leaving pleasantly satisfied.
We rented from one of the owners for a very fair price. The unit was clean and tastefully decorated. No bugs, TV worked fine with USA satellite service, plenty of warm water, and good maid service. That said, the condition of the units seemed to differ with each owner.
The building is showing wear on the exterior, and the original pool bar/resturant needs to be rebuilt (as a result of a fire a few years ago, not the hurricane). I got the impression that there was a lot of infighting and squabbling amoung the owners that prevents some needed work from getting done.
Some of the resident owners were downright rude but the girls in the convenience/deli (Claudia in particular) were awesome & the guys at the bar/food pool tent were great (Jesus especially). Our manager was strangely MIA but her friend Chris picked up the slack.
Cancun is rebuilding fast. They are pushing sand around and planting new palms. The bottom half of the zone (where CCP is) was hardest hit but they are working 24/7. One evening there were bulldozers rebuilding the beach right under us all through the night. Again, we had prepared ourselves for this and remained copasetic about this stuff. If you can do the same, I would recommend Cancun Plaza.
