Just got back from the IC last weekend. We had a wonderful time and actually discovered it was the same hotel we stayed at on our High School Senior trip 11 years ago. That was back before the hotel was bought by Intercontinental—it is much nicer and more updated now. We are recently engaged and when the staff found this out they upgraded us to a suite on the club level. It was an amazing room, very large, clean with a beautiful terrace overlooking the property and water. Beds were soooo comfortable and we just loved the service. Breakfast every morning on our floor and snacks every night. Very cool to have free fresh squeezed juices and coffee in the morning. All the staff were wonderful, from the housekeepers to the beach servers. Everyone was so accommodating.
The property itself is wonderful. Best beach by far anywhere in Cancun. We visited a few all inclusive hotels while we were there just to compare and they didn't. The property is large enough to get away from the other guests and children. There were a lot of family's and kids but that didn't bother us too much. I noticed that most of the families were Mexican as opposed to American and the children were much better behaved than I've seen at some American resorts so it really didn't bother us. There is also a nice adults only pool as well, though we stayed in the main pool area most of the time. We were so glad that we stayed here as opposed to one of the all-inclusives we were considering because the pools were actually nice and relaxing. No bumping music or "games" by the pool spring break-style.
We did not get hounded by "time share" people at all but met a couple guests who had. Maybe we looked too young or something but it was a non-issue for us. Now, to my only complaint. The food was sub par at best. Restaraunts at the hotel were below average. I don't know how you can mess up guacamole but the guac at the IC is not good and its comes with everything which was disappointing. I wouldn't try anything to fancy and just stick with the basics. The quesadillas and fajitas were OK. And the breakfast at Frutas y Flores (the hotel restaurant) was good but pricey. But dinner at the beachside restaurant was bad enough that we ate out every other night. Also my fiance ate a hamburger on the beach for lunch one day, and she had Montezuma's revenge by that evening. Whether it was from the burger or not, we'll never know, but with the quality of the food I wouldn't be surprised. Overall the property/service was fantastic. This would honestly but a fabulous hotel if not for the food. We're hoping they do something to fix that and we'll be on the next flight back!
