“A Mediterranean Village??”

A trip here is a must. It is easily accessible by taking the Sabalo Centro bus. We hopped off at the Central Market which is also a must--an open air market that sells mostly food (including pig's head and feet)--there are a few stalls with tourist items here too. Then we walked to the Cathedral, maybe a block away, which is beautiful. From here Plazuela Machado was maybe two blocks away. It reminded me of a little mediterranean village with open air restaurants and colorful colonial buildings. Then we walked to the ocean and up the beach sidewalk called the Malecon which is punctuated with beautiful monuments, cliff divers, colonial buildings, and a cool sea water pool. If you go far enough up the walk you may meet the fisherman returning in the afternoon with their catch--very interesting and very smelly. This was our best day in Mazatlan.

“A Must See”

The Plaza Machado is one of Mazatlan's hidden treasures. The plaza is tucked away in the heart of downtown. It cost 8 pesos and a 20 minute scenic bus ride (Sabalo Centro) from the Golden Zone. The plaza is surrounded by European style cafes and the newly restored theater named after a famous Mexican opera singer, Angela Peralta. My family and new found friends from Connecticut shared food combinations to our own personal guitarist. A very relaxing place to get away from the typical tourist hustle.

Loved the beautiful setting of Plaza Machado. Lots of interesting sites to see from dancers to people watching. Restaurant Pedro y Lola - one of the best in Mazatlan. The best Shrimp I ever tasted along with the Banana Pie for dessert. A great meal to a wonderful two week vacation in Mazatlan. Can't wait to return!!

“Villa Portal, what a restaurant!”

A great setting with great service and incredible table fare. Gerardo is a fine host and will explain a menu that lacks details about the very different and tasty entrees served at this fine eatery. Fresh seafood, poultry and beef served with and without sauces made from regional spices and fresh vegetables. Try the SHRIMP STROGANOFF! The salads are excellent and large enough for two. The best CAESAR I've ever eaten, and it's the real deal.
A great wine list, full bar and large portions for cheap!
Indoor and covered sidewalk dining in the Plaza. They opened for lunch and did'nt close until around 2am.
My family and I enjoyed it two nights in a row!
