“Loved the SunSpree”

I just returned from a wonderful week at the Holiday Inn Sunspree. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a safe and fridge. the food was great something for everyone. Staff very pleasant and friendly. The resort is great for families with young children the pool and beach are very child safe and friendly. Having said that ,I am 50 and I traveled with my boyfriend and we loved the hotel. Cabbage beach is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel and we enjoyed several days there. The staff at the hotel helped us prepare and package a lunch they gave us a bottle of champange one day which we truly enjoyed at the beach. We visited the Atlantis but were glad we were not staying there too big. too loud to many lines. At the pool at the sunspree there was always a chair and if you wanted a friendly conversation. I feel the staff knows how to treat us the consumer, but if you go the extra yard with them i.e. being respectful and thankful they really treat you great. I loved the hotel and the Island The taxi drivers were fair and the streets felt safe at all times I can't wait to go back My trip started 2/19/05 thru 2/26/05 Have fun

“Pleasantly Surprised!”

Paradise Island Harbour Resort

3 of 5 stars

Spent 5 nights at Holiday Inn Sunspree, the second week of Feb, and was very satisfied with my stay. Room was ready early, upon arrival at 1 PM. Due to many negative reviews, was somewhat skeptical, and even had a margarita first, before looking at our room! We had a balcony room, and were pleasantly surprised upon entering...while the hotel is old (and bathroom could use some updating) the room was sunny and immaculately clean. Did not encounter musty smell or mildew, which is what I feared the most. Small, but adequatel balcony, and nice and very relaxing view of the harbor. Enjoyed watching boats pass by, and did not smell odor of oil, which others have mentioned in their reviews. The staff was the best...with mostly all being very courteous and friendly.

Pool is beautiful (but cold, as it is not heated). Beach sand is soft and clean, but not a real swimming place, as it is a harbor, which we were aware of before arrival, and just walked 10 minutes to cabbage beach. This gave us the opportunity to walk off breakfast, which was very good, with large selection. I did not see any bugs in restaurant either, as was mentioned in some other reviews. Prepare to buy bottled water for brushing teeth, etc, as water in bathroom tap had strong sulfa odor. There is, however, a purified water dispenser in the gym (2nd floor), as well as filtered water dispenser at pool bar. Lunch was OK, could always find something to eat, but dinner was not great. The other alternative, which we booked every night after the first day, was the separate restaurant. Waiter service, and food was not gourmet, but good (steak was delicious).

Entertainment each evening was a nice touch. Again, not to rave about, but they certainly do try. Pool bar was great...good drinks, and good food, always served with a smile. It doesn't hurt to give a small tip here and there, as they really do work very hard. Pool bar was also very clean, I did not find floors to be wet or slippery, as I read in other reviews. Nice group of people staying here...various ages and from all over the US, UK, Australia, etc. Friendly and laid back atmosphere. We did need to check out of our room by 11 AM, however hotel did store bags until we left, and even provided a complementary room to shower and change in.

To sum it all up, it was certainly worth the cost of the trip, and being an all inclusive, it was a great deal! It's not a 5 star hotel, but your not paying 5 star prices either! It's exactly as rated, a 3 star older hotel, which was clean, comfortable, with a laid back atmosphere, and accommodating staff. If you are prepared to stay at a 3 star hotel, and do not have expectations of Atlantis, you will be fine. I plan to return again.
(Do go for the extra few bucks, and get a balcony room with harbor view, it definitely is worth it).

“Not 5 Star, but we enjoyed ourselves!”

Paradise Island Harbour Resort

My wife and I spent 4 days/3 nights at the hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I was a bit concerned by some of the other reviews before we left, but we were not disappointed. Nice pool and hottub, right near the harbour. Wahoo's bar and grill is friendly and serves decent bar food and excellent tropical drinks. The Captains Lounge (buffet style restaurant) had a different menu each lunch and dinner (mexican, chinese, american) and wasn't bad at all. In fact, we really liked a bunch of the food. The breakfast was good and had a nice omlette bar set up every day. The only downside was the wait to check in, they say 4pm, and they mean it. I am a Platinum Priority Club member and couldn't get into a room before 4pm (but they do give you your bracelet for activities, food and drinks). "Thanks" to the staff for a fun 4 day vacation (they had a nice spread for the Superbowl too!).

“This is a Holiday Inn after all and that is what you will get.”

We got a great deal on this hotel so for the money I spent I got what I paid for. I do agree with the other poster that the hotel should advise that there "beach" is on the harbor side. The do take all the pictures looking from the harbor instead of from the beach. I am a travel agent so I have seen all kinds of hotels. I usually steer clear of any Holiday Inn property but I couldn't refuse the deal I got. However because I am a travel agent I have to look at things from the point of view of the regular client who is probably paying the average rate.

The room was average. I had no problem with any area as far as the property being clean.

There was not a huge selection at the buffet but I was always able to find something to my liking. The only problem I had with the buffet is that the staff would pick and choose who they went out of their way for. I know they wanted tips but to me you should treat everyone with the royal treatment and then you will get a good tip. I am not going to give you a great tip in hopes that you will treat me well.

As far as another person saying that the Atlantis was better -- I went over there and I didn't see that -- of course if you could book the Atlantis for the same price or less maybe that would be okay but you do have to consider the fact that this hotel is all-inclusive.

As a travel agent I would recommend ths hotel if I had a group of college kids wanting to go somewhere and stay drunk by the pool. This would be the perfect place for that.
