“Good time”

Coki Beach

Coki is a fun beach to hit for the day- yes, it gets packed when there are ships in (check the schedule) but even then, its a good timeif you can get out there early and get a good spot. Prepare to get approached for chair rentals, braiding, etc- a simple "no thanks" takes care of that. I second the below review to ask for Web- he will take care of your drinks and food with true island charm and wit. I highly recommend the johnny cakes and mango daqs. The snorkeling is good, the views great and the water is really blue and beautiful. A true Carribean experience- just go with an open mind.

“The real scoop on Coki Beach”

I've been to Coki several times and again just last week. I am concerned by the impact on which the tourists have with this beautiful environment. Most importantly, please do not feed dog bones to the fish. Think about it. Would you eat a dog bone? Of course not. It's not part of your diet. So why would you give fish (or polute the water) a piece of junk that would potentially harm the welfare of the aquatic environment??? This is not Disneyland, folks. It's part of God's creation that is slowly dying due to folks wanting to get a thrill. Are you training these fish to eat only dog bones and junk so that they don't go back to eating what is healthy for them? When you eat snapper at a restaurant, it could be the one that ate the dog bones. yummy.

To fully enjoy Coki you must expect the unexpected! There are FISH galore but dont expect the refinements of USA Florida. The beach is perfect for snorkelling. Check out where restroom is first so you dont set up a long walk from it. Vendors enjoy bartering with you but mostly their prices are very reasonable. Their standard of living is not as high so dont expect the facility to perform to a 5 star standard. People are pleasant generally. It is not necessary to take dog bones into the water for the fish - actually it's not good for the environment. Plenty of fish will visit you anyway. Except for Trunk Bay on St. John's, this is the best beach on St. Thomas and safe for children. Even if cruise ships are in and beach is a little crowded, once you are in the water there's lots of room.
Enjoy. You wanted to see "the islands" so if you prefer Miami Beach stay away.

Don't expect a scene from "Castaway", it will be crowded if there are cruise ships in town. Here is what you do. Get out of the ship ASAP and take a taxi to Coki Beach ($10 each way per person) you can negotiate with the driver for smaller children. We were a group of 10 and they only charged us for 9. If you like SCUBA there is a dive shop right at the beach. They are very courteous and professional. You can even dive if you are not certified, they have a program for resort divers. If you have kids, this is it. No waves and crystal clear waters. Take your own snorkeling gear or it will cost your few bucks to rent them.

When you go to Coki Beach ask for a guy named Web - he will take care of anything you need. The beach is the best ever - that of course is my opinion. Buy some dog bones from Web and feed the fish - kids & adults love this. I would stay away from the food they serve at the beach - it didnt look that great. The drinks are good though and they dont skimp on the alcohol.
