We booked this hotel only 2 weeks in advance. The reviews on TripAdvisor looked really good so we took a chance.

Well we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and bright. We had the upstairs room near to the beach, great location and we were glad to be the beach side of the road. If you prefer complete quiet, book the pool/garden side as then you will not be able to hear the restaurant and music from along the beach. Although we had no problem getting to sleep, the rum punch saw to that.

All the staff we came into contact with were brilliant. Special thanks to Kerry-Ann, Marvette and Jaqueline, our waitresses and Hyacinth doing the eggs in the morning, always with a cheary smile. Nothing was too much trouble, 'Please and Thank you' go a long way. Also the young guy at the bar we found to be very friendly, he loves football, hope his ankle injury heals ok.

Great beach, although not as quiet as Sandy Bay further along, but then not as expensive as Sandals either.

I did alot of research before booking this trip, my buddy and I found a steal on Expedia. We were upgraded to the room closest to the beach and the bar, the best location at the resort. The security on staff took care of all our needs and supplied for the week with superior quality! The bar had a wide variety of tasty drinks, we tipped them a couple bucks here and there, they always hooked up the drinks. We brought an Xbox and Playstation with us so we never left the hotel. If you dare to step foot off the resorts grounds you will be constantly harassed by hustlers trying to sell you women, or they just want to "talk to you". But if you dont "talk" to them you are a "racist".
The food at the hotel was descent at best. I never had any awesome jerk chicken but I should have left the resort if I wanted that. My complaint with the food is they left it out for hours uncovered with bugs flying over it. There was never much variety and its three meals a day with no snacks or late night food, I constantly had the munchies and went hungry.
Overall I actually had a great relaxing vacation. I got to do exactly what I wanted to do. Huge spliffs in the carribean while playing game after game of NBA live, looser has to get drinks from the bar.
I recently returned from a family vacation at a fancy Miami Hotel. The two trips can not even be compared. Personaly as much as I love Bob Marley, I prefer to travel in the USA!

“Loved this resort!”

Went to this resort for my moms wedding. Our party had roughly 30 people. My sister, soon to be step siblings, and our grandmothers were some of the last to arrive for the vacation. When we arrived at the airport we were told that our hotel was over booked and we were being upgraded to Sandal's Sandy Bay, whoch was a few miles down the road. Being that i was 16 years old my mom was not to happy with the idea of her two teenage daughters running wild in jamaica, so a married couple from our party switched hotels with us. We arrived at the hotel and we were on the pool side of the resort, which ment we had to cross the street in order to get to the dinning area, bar and beach. The food was fantastic, always fresh fruit station! The beach was a little small but still beautiful. There was plenty of snorkel gear and beach volley ball. Glass bottom boats, banana boats, snorkel trips, and waverunners pulled right up on the beach infront of the resort so they were very convienient and accessable. A great singing group called "Father and Son" walked up and down the beach playing a steel drum and singing bob marley! Staff was very friendly and rooms were nice and colorful! The wedding was beautiful and private. Tables and cake was provided. A few of my moms friends payed the father and son group to come back that day and play at the weddding because my mom loved them so much. They gave us a free CD which was surprisingly awsome! over all our stay was fantastic and i would deffinately go back in a heart beat!

“LOVED Negril Gardens!”

Grand Pineapple Beach Negril

We booked our hotel thru Travelocity for a quick spring break getaway after we saw a air/hotel package deal that couldn't be passed up! (Seriously, it was cheaper than driving and staying at a hotel in a beach in Florida) Being students and loving to travel, we are never one to pass up on a good deal if the oppurtunity comes by.

We did call and check with hotel to see if we had reservations; we always do that if we book with an online agency just to be sure. I'd hate to arrive and see we didn't even have a reservation.

We arrived late in Montego Bay after a long day of flying (FYI if you can avoid American Airlines, don't fly with them, they are HORRIBLE). We had arranged a private driver to take us to the hotel. When we arrived there, it we were warmly greeted and immediately after a quick check in, we had a bellboy help us with our bags to our rooms. We stayed on the gardenside. Some maybe concerned with the street crossing, but it wasn't a problem since there was a guard on duty at all times.

Staff is friendly, the beach is wonderful! A big plus is there was not a lot of children, so the property is pretty calm, with the exception of the nights when Alfreds (next door) had live music for dancing. And the food, well it's pretty good actually. I wasn't expecting much, but I was very impressed. There's a good variety for everyone. Drinks were good, I don't really have any big complaints. The only thing was it took forever for the water to heat up in the shower-but no biggie. We didn't see any bugs, rooms were kept very clean, and loved the staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone in a heart beat if you want a nice calm relaxing vacation!

“Spectacular Jamaican Vacation!”

Grand Pineapple Beach Negril

Apr 1, 2008
7/7 found this review helpful

I'm not sure where all of the negative reviews come from. I suppose it depends on your expectations. I've stayed at "high-end" resorts in the Caribbean, but don't care for the forced, fancy service. The people at Negril Gardens are truly great people - they are clearly not being nice because they're "supposed to" like at most resorts!

It's a small place with only one restaurant. Our room was on the beach side, and we didn't make it to the garden side at all. The beach and bar were only 50 steps from our room! The staff gets to know you by name very quickly - and this staff really IS Jamaica! The best part about this island is the people, so why go to a "sterile" resort where you don't get to experience the culture??

Food is very good, but not gourmet. Rooms are adequate and clean. This is not a fancy place, but Jamaica is not a fancy place - it's a RELAXING place!

The beach is spectacular! Nowhere else I've been has sand like Negril - it's like walking in flour. The sea is pretty calm and very, very clean. When you walk up and down the beach, there is a LOT going on - there would be no reason for you to be bored here! Shopping, live music, bars - you name it, it's there.

Yes, there will be people on the beach (not on resort property) harassing you about buying drugs, but it's pretty easy to just tell them you're not into it (if you're not). Respect goes a long way here, though with some of the pushier ones, you have to be a bit firmer. Even late at night, well after dark, we never felt the least bit unsafe. Security at the resort is really good about keeping track of the guests, just in case.

We also went into Negril, shopping and visiting Rick's Cafe. Both are highly recommended. YS Falls was also a great tour, but unless you're up for an ALL DAY tour, I'd stay away from the optional Black River boat tour, and would only consider the Appleton tour - both close to YS Falls, and offered together as a package of three. We booked through the hotel rather than through Apple. It was easier that way since Apple doesn't have a rep on this tiny property.

In this section of hotels, NG was the only place that had a decent amount of shade on the beach - if you're fair-skinned like we are, that's obviously important. Not too much trouble finding shade here.

We had a blast, and will be back!
