“Castle Life in Jamaica”

Blue Cave Castle

5 of 5 stars
Kasnas City
May 8, 2008

I have stayed at the Blud Cave twice now- once for spring break in college, and returned for my friend's wedding in 2006. I see no need to stay in an all-inclusive resort when the prices at blue cave are so reasonable. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance, including on called Brown Sugar, where we ate lobster every day for under $15 US. The Fish for the fish and chips were brought in fresh after we ordered. Just keep in mind everying in Jamaica takes longer.

The staff at the Castle is welcoming and friendly. They will take you anywhere you want to go, or get you anything you need.

This was our second visit to Negril. We stayed at the Sea Star Inn on our first visit..Sea Star was awesome, but has no ocean view. This time we wanted to stay ocean front, and did not want to deal with the beach, so after reading the reviews on the Blue Cave Castle, decided to stay there. What an excellent choice!!!
The grounds are beautiful...well maintained, clean...flowers everywhere...very well taken care of by people who care. We chose an air conditioned room which was very comfortable, clean, spacious, and had a breath taking view of the Caribbean!!!
Susan, the owner was fun, warm and very caring. She has put togetther a wonderful staff....all who care for you like you are family! Petrona the manager is kind, patient, warm and very caring...goes out of her way to take care of you.
Teddy...the chef, is an amazing cook. His Lobster Thermadore is awesome..and his bananas flambee was tooooooo good to describe !!!!!!!!! Breakfast was very good also...try the banana pancakes !! Every employee cared very much...and it showed. Our waitress for our entire 9 days was Alisia...she was kind, funny, warm...and very attentive.
Snorkleing off the castle is too cool, easy to get in and out of the water , and very fun to swim around in the cave. We also jumped about 40-50 feet off the cliffs there which was quite an experience!!
This is an amazing place to stay , with excellent service and food..for a very reasonable price....

Well done Susan!! Well done !!!

My wife and I just returned from our stay at Blue Cave and we loved it! We stayed in the penthouse with it's 3 private decks and unsurpassed views. It could not have been better. Before arrival I was a little concerned about our room's lack of A/C, but with the breeze and the ceiling fan I was very comfortable.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Petrona the manager went the extra mile to make sure everything was just right for our stay. Teddy the chef made incredible meals including, rum banana and cinnamon pancakes, lobster thermadore and papaya ice cream. Alicia the waitress was best of all with her great sense of humor. Susan the owner was always friendly and gracious.

Snorkling from the castle was beautiful. We saw large stingrays, eels, and all manner of fish. We had a wonderful time and have already booked our stay for next year.

Okay so this hotel has had rave reviews, so our expectations were skewed. Your experience really depends on your taste, what accomodations you are used to, and your expectations.

To be fair, our expectations were a quiet, relaxing hotel, good service, and a clean place to sleep.

PROS:
We got the penthouse had a great large, private deck with an incredible view of the ocean. The room is nice, with a kitchenette and all amenities.

The hotel chef, Teddy, is amazing....get the Lobster thermador! Your meal is delivered to you by courteous, pleasant staff, and we ate watching the sunset on our quiet, private deck. We loved tanning on our deck, and having the ocean right below. The staff are friendly, and the complimentary Blue Mountain coffee every morning is a treat!

CONS:
The first day we arrived, loud reggae music was played all afternoon until way past midnight, and it resonated throughout the castle, making it almost impossible to sleep. It was Spring Break, but the castle was supposed to be a quiet, relaxing vacation, as confirmed by the hotel. The road outside the castle has no sidewalk, so be careful of crazy Jamaican drivers.

There are bugs in the room, especially at night. We found them on the bed and the floor. There's no air conditioning in the Penthouse, which is surprising given that it is the most expensive room. The bathroom is interesting -- toilet takes a few flushes sometimes. Water pressure is not strong, and water gets everywhere after the shower.

Although it was great to experience a more Jamaican-style accomodation, we were relieved when we checked into a nice all-inclusive, which is more of what we were looking for with the cleaner sheets and Western-style bathrooms.

So, take this review with a grain of salt. If you don't mind roughing it a big with a few bugs, a musty smell, no a/c, and a more Jamaican experience, I highly recommend this hotel.

If you are looking for the cleaner Best Western-style accomodations, look elsewhere.
