We were seeking the PERFECT HOLIDAY. And truly found it here.

Glowing Recommendation:
If like us you seek a non-pretencious hotel of charm; demonstrating island character with boutiqe style, with golden sands and gentle caribbean waters, blended with a genuine warmth of staff, then look no further.

We were blessed with 17 nights at this sanctuary and like so many guests before us, can guarantee that we will return. The management have put together a fine team of staff and again like so many before us, we left feeling they were not staff, but special friends. (Hello :>))) Amadean, Romaine, Shana-Kay & Super - you can't know how much we miss you all)

Food:
Breakfast and lunches are great at Country Country (& remember we were here for 17 days). Supper was a little disappointing but the Negril area has much to satisfy within a short taxi ride: Hot recommendations for dinner, Catcha Falling Star (best food of our stay and stunningly beautiful setting) / The Hungry Lion (boutique style restaurant within local art gallery) both charming & unusual / The Rockhouse (great food & super setting). Sweet Spice was outstanding for simple local foods but it is "dry". You are however permitted to take your own wine or beer with you. So do. :>). If you're just walking up the beach - do not miss Norma's for supper - fantastic. And for a great pizza, try Chances, also on the beach. Oh and for lunch, there is a little beach hut to the right of Country Country that do little patis that are, to die for - don't miss them.

Room for Improvement:
This is the real world and of course, no where is absolutely perfect. The observations I make reference to below are for the benefit of the travellers yet to come and equally I hope, tips for the hotel which if embraced, will put the perfect stay quite beyond reproach:

1) Trolleys serving the restaurant rumble past the cottages on the paved pathway. The heavily laden carts particularly at 6am and 10pm are a nightmare and were the subject of much discussion on the beach amongst the guests. You need only to put wheels on with inflated tyres and guess what - problem solved! Please do it.

2) I would not advocate that you stay here during some of Feb/most of March. This is the Spring break and the dates vary a little each year - so book with caution. We were lucky because our first night (28/3) was the last night of 'Margaritaville' in all her glory. This is the club-from-hell (unless you're a teenager) further up the beach. The negative comments on this subject you may have read from a couple of previous guests are truly no exageration (although prior to experiencing it for ourselves, we thought it might be). At 2am we had to shout to each other, within our cottage, with all the doors and windows shut, in order to be able to hear one another. And quite literally, the vary foundations of the property vibrated from the heavy base. Solution simple - don't stay here during Spring Break.

3) This next comment really only affects guests staying in the two beach front properties and only when the 'team' are setting up the restaurant for breakfast. Please, please bear in mind, we are here on holiday and because of that, we do not need to wake up at 6.30am. And certainly not to the sound of clattering cutlery, china and hoots and howls of laughter. Don't get me wrong - it's delightful to hear people clearly so very happy in their work (and so early in the day!) but we don't want to hear any of it, until we're "up" and certanly not before you even open the restaurant at 7.30.

Country Country is a lovely place to stay. The staff went out of their way to be accomodating. Monique and Christine were especially helpful. The food at the restaurant was above average but a little pricey as are most restaurants in Negril. The cottage (521) was clean and charming. The housekeepers do an excellent job cleaning and the staff keep the grounds in pristine condition. I agree screen need to be added. We kept the windows open during the day but shut them in the early evenings to keep the bugs out. Margaritaville is noisy during the busy season and spring break but is quiet by 9:00 the rest of the time. Being in the middle of 7 Mile Beach is the best place to be. There are many nearby bars and restaurants and the sunsets make it worthwhile to visit. Irie.

“Nice , peaceful stay @ Country-Country”

We stayed at Country-Country 1st week of April 2008.
This place is very nice and extremely peaceful.

Check in was litte bumpy in that our room was not ready and
after spending nearly hour on computer & having couple drinks
at the bar , still not ready and no signs of soon come. This is
where we met Lee , who is a wonderful person as well as a
true asset to Country Country. After introducing ourselves and
mentioning this to Lee , poof all of a sudden within 5 minutes
we were in our room and all documents that needed to be
signed were brought to us in our room to sign. Score Lee 1 &
the girls in front office 0.

Our room was nice , porch was roomy , room was nicely &
tastefully decorated , bed nice , shower nice pressure & hot
which can be rare in Negril. Grounds around the hotel are very
lush and pretty , very serene atmosphere. You almost have to
see to appreciate , it is that peaceful.

In regards to mosquitoes being problems in the rooms as many
have mentioned. Yes it will be a problem if you do not burn a coil.
Or spray , or they will provide an electronic repellant , just ask
Lee and he will hook up in your room. Score Lee 2 / we lit the
mosquito coils we brought & Lee's set up and only couple
bites each in weeks time. If you do nothing then in my opinion
it could be a problem. Consider this the truth.

Bar & Restaraunt = Nice !! Great view from the sea side bar &
restaraunt , couple girls working there real cool to visit with and
a couple with attitudes , no big deal , still very nice. The free
daily breakfast was out of this world !! Incredible job by the Chef !
Drinks were just fine , I think we just had one dinner there but
very good also.

Beach area is one of the best in all of Negril !! Nice big area of
soft , white sand , daily Lee would groom the beach and also
take care of your chairs , towels , shade , even magazines.
Score Lee 3 / Lee keeps the beach looking absolutely great !!

Security was probably the best I have seen at Negril hotel , when
you leave the grounds the security up front or at beach area will
ask your room # and upon coming back they remember who
you are and call your name & room # back to you. We felt very
safe and well looked after during our stay.

All in all I would rate this hotel as very good . If you are just
wanting to totally relax and unwind , this is definitely the place
to go.

“Beautiful place to stay”

Country Country Beach Cottages

We spent 6 gorgeous days and restful nights on the beach at Country Country. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. The staff were wonderful, especially Lee--he made sure that we had the best beach vacation ever.

The cottages are unbelievable--the decor, the linens, the spaciousness were more than we expected. The gardens are beautiful and truly make you feel that you are in the country and not in the middle of Negril. The privacy that you feel is amazing.

The food is wonderful and the staff truly made us feel welcome. We will be going back to Country Country.

“Lovely Lovely - A Travel Consultant's First 5 Rating”

Country Country Beach Cottages

I have traveled all over the Caribbean and Mexico and stayed in everything from very basic to luxury properties. This place was just fantastic. The property and cottages and lovely and we became quite close to several members of the staff. We also met quite a few fellow travelers from the States, the UK and Australia and everyone we talked to couldn't have been happier! If you're looking for deluxe accommodations with a lot of amenties, look elsewhere. In a sea of huge all-inclusive resorts that seem to be taking over the Caribbean and speicifically Jamaica, County Country offers a wonderful alternative. In my opinion, I don't understand why anyone would stay at one of the large all-inclusives in Negril; Montego Bay, Runaway Bay, Ocho Rios, etc. are much better suited for that. Negril is one of the few places in Jamaica where tourists and Jamaicans mingle freely with one another. Also, there are so many restaurants available that it's fun to try new places in the evening. Country Country does have a restaurant on site that offers breakfast (fantastic and included daily), lunch and dinner along with drinks but we only had breakfast at the hotel. The hotel's section of beach is really nice, too. We walked quite a distance in either direction and didn't see another place that looked nicer than Country Country. I would recommend a stop at the grocery store (Hi-Lo is the largest in Negril and has the most selection) and stock up your fridge with soda, Red Stripe, rum, etc.; you can save quite a bit of money doing this. We also bought bread, lunch meat, mustard, chips, etc. to have a few quick and easy lunches right on our porch. We never ran into a major issue with bugs (although there had been enough rain to have them around) which have been mentioned in some previous reviews. Screens are not used much in the Caribbean because they rust so quickly. I would recommend closing up your shutters at dusk when mosquitos are most active. Another negative mentioned in some earlier reviews is Margarativille. First, this is not at all the fault or problem of Country Country and, to be honest, most of the employees we talked to would prefer that it not be so close to them but we were never kept awake once by it. A couple that we met from the UK that had been there are over 2 weeks said that they were kept awake quite late on their first night which was right toward the end of college Spring Break season. After that, they didn't notice any major noise late at night. I would say that a stay here would probably not be ideal during the brief 2 to 3 week college Spring Break period but, other then that, this should not be a problem. People need to realize that you're not in the States and there aren't noise laws like there are here; the Jamaican authorities won't do anything about a bar making too much noise.
In summary, highly recommended and would definitely stay here again. Enjoy enjoy!
