“Relaxing yet rough around the edges”

The Palms Resort

4 of 5 stars
los angeles
Jul 22, 2008 New

We stayed at the Palms for four nights and five days during the off-season in July. Overall, it was a relaxing vacation and I was happy to avoid the all inclusive crowd.

Highlights: Shannon, the bartender is really personable and makes wonderful drinks. The food at the hotel is really good. The beach is clear and gorgeous. The pool is small but nice.

Low Points: There really aren't any ocean front rooms so I wouldn't spend the extra money for that, the hotel was under construction and lacked some basics in the rooms(safe, mini fridge, water pressure etc.), shower was hit or miss with the water pressure. The rooms were a bit rustic but I liked the minimalist design. Music at the bar could be very loud at night when you are trying to sleep. The locals are always trying to sell things on the beach--just be firm and polite if you aren't interested.

Try Pilot's Cafe behind the hotel for a local meal. Richard runs snorkeling trips and he is always in front of the hotel. Check out the Rock House on the Cliffs for dinner.

Hope this is helpful.

“This place is sooo cool!!”

The Palms Resort

Jul 19, 2008 New

Me and two friends stayed at The Palms at the end of July and we absolutely loved the place.
It cannot be better located in Negril. If we were any closer to the beach we would have been in the sea!!.
Whilst minor renovations are still going on, the property is so charming and beautiful it really doesn't matter.
The staff are fantastic and friendly. Big shout for Shannon, Mike Leroy, O;neil all every one else.
We could not have been made to feel more welcomed by the owners John and Cassandra.
We even got to concoct our own drink at the brilliant beach side bar!. When you go there ask Shannon or one of the other guys for LB rum and Ting. Now known in our neck of the woods as " Turn you Fool".

The Palms Negril Resort was recommended to me by a colleague on my Job, she had her honeymoon there in April.
She raved about the food there (and the experience she and her new husband had there. So i took the girlfriend and
off we went to a place I never heard of in June and it was well worth the trip. I Do plan to return there maybe next year.
Thanks Palms Negril for a perfect time and experience. You really treated us well and you made my girlfriend happy. I love you for that

“EXCELLENT RESORT”

The Palms Resort

Gosh!!! Where do I start - We, (my teenage son, neice and nephew travelled to Jamaica on 25th May 2008 due to a family member who was very unwell. We had a very exhausting and tiring 8 days, therefore for the rest of our vacation we wanted a comfortable, relaxing 'me' time to finish off with. I was told about The Palms in Negril. Wow!!! Upon arriving at the resort, it clearly stood out from the other hotels - as QUALITY. The reception staff was very helpful once we had arrived, he made us very comfortable, showed us around the resort, and he arranged a meal for us. Well, it was not what I was expecting, the food was fantastic- A-La-Carte, the chef and the staff couldnt do more for us. It was beautiful sitting by the beach on a lovely resort eating excellent food. Bear in mind we havent even seen the rooms yet. This I was not expecting, the rooms were amazing, very clean, very modern and luxurious. The rooms are double rooms , however they are so big, that the receptionist staff arranged for another Queen size bed to be put in both our rooms, it was now a twin room, you would never guess the difference. The resort is beautifully lined with Palm Trees, and other tropical plants, you can smell the tropical wood that is part of the decor. Mr Nelson who designed the resort is also the owner, a very nice, softly spoken gentleman. He was so helpful, we didnt want to leave. We booked for 5 nights half board, and this included breakfast, lunch and dinner with a drink with each meal. Drinks during the day is paid for separately. Every day was amazing, the bar staff, the chef, the waiters, everybody was wonderful, There is soft reggae music in the back ground, and the resort is right on the beach front. You are close to water activities, so my son and nephew had a ball jet sking and participating in the water sports.
The Resort does offer all-inclusive if preferable, it is worth it. It has just been re-vamped from a run down hotel, and the result is out of this world. There is still a little construction going on, but you would never guess it.
This is my second visit to Negril, and I stayed at Rondel Village that is room only, but if you are looking for full/half board or all-inclusive this is the one for you. The Resort also offers room only if so wish. Ask whether I will go back again? Not questionable. Go and see for yourself you will not be disappointed.

“Nice hotel”

The Palms Resort

This beach and sea has got to be one of the best in the world, so really the hotel room is not too important as you will want to be outside anyway.
The hotel is currently under renovation and is due to be completed around Nov time. We were not aware of this at the time of the booking so the rooms had no light fittings, no curtains, no safe (but they installed one for us), and most importantly for my husband, no Mossy nets!. All this said though the rooms are being decorated very nicely, modern and rustic. First impressions of the hotel are not that great but once we setttled in it was just fine and i think this place will be fab once it is completed.
The section of the hotel which is on the beach is beautiful, nice bar, restaurant and pool. They are working very hard to make this hotel and success, not quite boutique as discribed on the website, but still very nice. If we go to Negril again I think we would be happy to stay here, good value for money, clean, welcoming, relaxing....as always in Negril, we never want to leave.
