“Loved the Food”

The stay at the Royal Plantation is definitely worth every penny. The staff is always willing to serve. I particulary enjoyed conversing with them on several ocassions. Since the Hotel does not have many rooms, it gives a real intimate feel....as if you were at home.
I would definitely return. The food is like no other. Make sure to go with a group of friends if you are looking for excitement. It can get pretty boring...but if you are looking a complete relaxing get-a-away, the royal plantation is the place.

“Unwinding”

Need to relax? Check.
Want to swim in crystal clear & clean waters? Check.
Looking for "personal" service? Check.
Massage/Spa? Check.
Tennis courts...2 of them.
Cozy rooms? Done.
Water sports? Plenty.

The hotel employees are excellent. They will all remember your name within hours. Very hospitable, friendly, courteous & of course professional.

The bad: #1 - A little too quiet. They should a least play a little Caribbean music in the background while you're eating, on the beach, enjoying the views...I was able to hear myself think VERY LOUDLY. Don't get me wrong, peace & quiet is at its best here but I would love to have a little help relaxing my brain with a little music in the background so my head can just sway back and forth without realizing I'm actually doing it. #2 - For a place so beautiful, the food was just average & limited in choices. Presentation was great but that shouldn't be better than the food itself. #3 - Very little entertainment when the lights go out. I wasn't brave enough to go out onto the island after 9pm, so I suffered at the resort watching TV. I could have done that back home. The singing during dinner was nice but why am I listening to elevator music, that puts me to sleep, in the Caribbean? Play some soothing, upbeat sounds so we can really get a feel of the Jamaican soul, please.

Overall: I would go again, but only for a few days (3-4). Beautiful place with beautiful people...just needs a little "touching up". Don't take Air Jamaica, they have no idea what they are doing & are always late. You will enjoy this if you're looking to "chill" or "vegetate".

    • Disliked — No music playing on the property; didn't feel like the Caribbean without it.

“It Doesn't Get Any Better Than This”

Well, like just about everyone else that's reviewed the RP here, we can only rave about our recent trip in late April for 7 days. We have been all over the Caribbean all-inclusives, but the RP is truly in a class by itself as an intimate, lodge-style resort.
We booked a Honeymoon Oceanview Suite and room 301 became one of the highlights of our stay (see pictures for the incredible views). It was always clean, fresh, and well-stocked with Roo Shiraz.
We were also very impressed with the friendly staff who were always looking for ways to make our stay enjoyable. Special thanks to our friends Cleon and Natalie at the beach grill who made sure that we had plenty of coconut rum, seafood salad, red snapper and chardonnay.
We're not sight-seers, so our only trip away during the week was a sea-kayak adventure for an hour - great fun. The RP offers so many on-site diversions with privacy. One of our favorites was a mid-day workout at the very well-maintained exercise center. We were also treated to a classical music concert one evening that showcased some exceptional young talent in Jamaica.
We were on the Royal Plan for meals and were very happy with the menus at the restaurants - a welcome change from the tiresome buffets at other all-inclusives.
To Suzanne and Peter, please don't change anything - we'll be back in 2009. Especially if we can have 301 again!

This was a HUGE choice to make considering it was for my honeymoon. I let my "husband" choose Jamacia (wonder why?) and I was left to pick our hotel. I chose RP and we are so happy we did.

On the way to the hotel we were starving so the driver took us to a place to eat for some "real" jerk chicken...it was awesome and we had a blast..

When we got to the hotel we were blown away, it was beautiful and check in was a breeze. Our room was not ready upon arrival but they set us up in a basic room to relax and change, which was nice. That room was small but still nice. We were in the RP honeymoon granda luxe suite, which had a living room, small spa area and huge walk out terrace where we had roomservice set up breakfast every morning.

I can't say enough about this place, it was great. We thought the food was very good and WAY better than a Sandles or other places like that. When you go on RP website they tell you they only have 3 reastraunts so I don't understand why people complain about that after the fact...it was fine for us and we like to eat!

Beach was hardley ever crouded and pool was always empty. We booked two day trips and cancelled them both b/c we didn't want to leave!! I would reccomened this place to anyone, we are both 28 and there were A LOT of couples there are age as well.

We did do a romantic dinner on the peir and that was awesome, so romantic...

The other people on here that complain about RP must be world traverlers or something because this place is first class!

Go there!

Let me start out by recognizing the staff -- everyone was courteous and they really go out of their way and try to get everything that you request for. We asked for coconut juice a few times, and one guy actually went to climb the tree to pick coconuts just for us. I couldn't have asked for more. Throughout our course of 5-night stay we only had one not-so-pleasant encounter, which was when we called the concierge for pillow service during dinner time.

The resort had a romantic, relaxed feel. However, you can tell the place's got history. The bathrooms are in good condition, but could definitely use some remodeling. I didn't want to be too picky about the rooms/resort buildings when I get room service twice a day.

The one thing that really disappointed my husband and I was the food. We dined at each restaurant at least twice, and each time the both of us would order on avg. 2 appetizers, 1 soup, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. However, there was no single dish worth remembering. After 3 days, I stopped ordering dessert. Le Papillon is pretty much a failed imitation of French fine dining. The other 2 restaurants aren't any better. Any meat you order tend to come overcooked, and the fish dish just always tastes the same... grilled red snapper. A few dishes from the Royal Grill are not edible (including the rubbery shrimp cocktail). Sometimes I wished I had a kitchen in the suite so I can make my own food... And one thing that really confused me was the lack of good ice cream/sorbet. It really isn't that hard to make. I've had much better w/ my own ice cream maker at home...

On our 4th night, my hubby and I couldn't take it anymore and went to Orchid (an Asian restaurant) in the Sandals resort next door for dinner... we did not go back to Sandals again after that.

Despite being on a romantic honeymoon (and paying big bucks for it), I was ready to go home after 3-4 days. The dining experience made things sort of miserable even when you have a beautiful beach view. I also get kinda creeped out by the sound of tree frogs at night.

With that said, the Monday night buffet grill was fairly good and so was the coconut shrimp at Royal Grill during lunch. It's about the what you'd get from the coconut shrimp from Red Lobster.. I just couldn't eat fried shrimp everyday.
