Let me start out by recognizing the staff -- everyone was courteous and they really go out of their way and try to get everything that you request for. We asked for coconut juice a few times, and one guy actually went to climb the tree to pick coconuts just for us. I couldn't have asked for more. Throughout our course of 5-night stay we only had one not-so-pleasant encounter, which was when we called the concierge for pillow service during dinner time.
The resort had a romantic, relaxed feel. However, you can tell the place's got history. The bathrooms are in good condition, but could definitely use some remodeling. I didn't want to be too picky about the rooms/resort buildings when I get room service twice a day.
The one thing that really disappointed my husband and I was the food. We dined at each restaurant at least twice, and each time the both of us would order on avg. 2 appetizers, 1 soup, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. However, there was no single dish worth remembering. After 3 days, I stopped ordering dessert. Le Papillon is pretty much a failed imitation of French fine dining. The other 2 restaurants aren't any better. Any meat you order tend to come overcooked, and the fish dish just always tastes the same... grilled red snapper. A few dishes from the Royal Grill are not edible (including the rubbery shrimp cocktail). Sometimes I wished I had a kitchen in the suite so I can make my own food... And one thing that really confused me was the lack of good ice cream/sorbet. It really isn't that hard to make. I've had much better w/ my own ice cream maker at home...
On our 4th night, my hubby and I couldn't take it anymore and went to Orchid (an Asian restaurant) in the Sandals resort next door for dinner... we did not go back to Sandals again after that.
Despite being on a romantic honeymoon (and paying big bucks for it), I was ready to go home after 3-4 days. The dining experience made things sort of miserable even when you have a beautiful beach view. I also get kinda creeped out by the sound of tree frogs at night.
With that said, the Monday night buffet grill was fairly good and so was the coconut shrimp at Royal Grill during lunch. It's about the what you'd get from the coconut shrimp from Red Lobster.. I just couldn't eat fried shrimp everyday.
