With my family, friends and brother-in-law and his wife we spent 7 excellent days in the Majestic. The Animation Team was great, Ive, Nina and very specially for us Massiel. She make our stay there very beautiful and we hope she's good and we will see her again some time next year. The food in The Three Calaveras was A-1, thanks to Don Omar and his crew, they did make us feel like home. Rooms where in top shape, very clean. The live music was excellent. All the employees there are kind and very friendly. Were planning for next year. We will come back!!!

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

Don't listen to the bad reviews....the Majestic Colonial was very nice. We just returned yesterday after a week stay and I have to say that we were relieved after reading the reviews on this web site. We had a very nice time.

Food - The food was above average as compared to an Iberostar all inclusive we stayed at last year in Cancun. We live in New York and are used to the great food of NYC and these restaurants, on the whole, did not disappoint. Of course some restaurants rated higher for us than others. Our favorite was the French restaurant, Le Gourmet. The food (especially the bisque soup and the filet mignon) was really good. We also had the grouper and chicken which were good. We ate here twice. The seafood (Tres Carabela) and steak (Rodeo Grill) restaurants were decent. As written in other reviews, the grilled lobster at the seafood restaurant and the chateaubriand at the steak restaurant were very good. These two restaurants are in an open air location on the beach and were a little warm the nights we were there. Our least favorite restaurant was the Dominican/Carribean (Taino) and I think it was purely because it was our first night, we were tired and the service was not very good. The food was good. Breakfast and lunch at the Gourmet Buffet was incredible. There is nothing that they did not offer. Everything was great here...fresh pasta bar, omelets, paella, hamburgers, fruit, soup, salad, etc. Beware that your bathing suit cannot even be damp to enter this restaurant for lunch. They do feel your bathing suit or make you sit on a chair to see if it leaves a wet mark. The security guard made at least one person from our group of 8 go back to the room to change each day. You cannot get one over on the guys. Lunch is also available at the beach if you don't want to deal with this issue, but the food selection does not compare. It's definitely worth drying off or changing. By the way, while we did not eat dinner at the Buffet restaurant, the food selection for lunch is the same as dinner. Also, the Japanese/Asian restaurant was also good. The tepanyaki side was fun and food was nice and fresh. The ala carte side was just OK.

Rooms - alot written about the lack of bathroom privacy.....just go with it. We traveled with our 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter and we found ways around it. The room is so big that you don't even realize someone is in the bathroom. As far as showering and privacy...put on a cover up or the robes they provide to come out of the shower. Before we arrived, I thought I would be able to change in the shower area since everyone said it was so big, but the entire shower area does get wet. There was enough room to stand in the water closet and get dressed or you could open a couple of the closet doors and stand behind them. It was no big deal even with the four of us. On the whole, rooms were very large and clean. In contrast to a couple of reviews, we had wash cloths every day.

As I'm sure you read, there are 4 buildings....1, 2, 3 and 4. They each start up near the lobby and extend like fingers to the beach. The pool is the second largest in the Carribean and extends the entire length of the resort from the lobby to the beach and is located between buildings 2 and 3. Unbelievable pool!

General - Lobby/Piano bar was great. It was quiet, the music was nice and Roberto the bartender was great! He made a really nice champagne cocktail which the other bartenders could not make. The only champagne cocktail they knew about was a mimosa! While we didn't see or feel any mosquitos, we did get bitten. Bring some anti-itch cream. Again, not a big deal. Don't leave the balcony door open and you won't have any bugs in your room. I did not smell any musty odor as reported in some of the reviews. I brought room freshener just in case and did not use it. There were reviews about the rudeness of the employees. We did not experience any rudeness. However, they did not go out of their way to say hello. We were in Cancun for the two previous summers and the locals there are extremely friendly. Obviously, the Domincans are not as friendly as the Mexicans, but they were not rude. No one in our party of 8 got sick. The employees tell you upon arrival not to drink the tap water and don't overdo it on milk based food/drink because they use goat milk and not cow milk.....this includes pina coladas! We didn't even use the tap to brush our teeth..they provide bottled water in the room refrigerators. The only disappointment is that there weren't any waitresses taking drink orders at the pool. This is a family resort and anyone who is going there without children and then complain about the fact that there are kids needs to go to an adult-only all inclusive.

We had a great time and were relieved that the negative reviews were over dramatized.

“Great Vacation at Majestic, can not understand these reviews”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

It's been about 2 weeks since we went to the Majestic and don't normally write reviews, but seeing so many negative comments I felt compelled. It was me, my wife and our 2 teenage boys( 15 and 18).

We booked through Continental Airlines Vacation and was very happy doing it this way. We flew from Newark to Punta Cana non-stop. They contract with VIP services who were waiting for us right after we got the luggage.

We had a private mini-van pick us up, as part of the package, and took us directly to the Majestic...no delay, no bus and no problems what so ever.

Our check in was again flawless. We were introduced to Annmarie who is absolutely fantastic and could not do enough for us. What a great job she does...thanks to her for making our vacation extra special.

We had 2 rooms in building 2, our sons on the 2nd floor, us on the 3rd floor. Nice view overlooking the pool.

I do agree with some that the rooms were somewhat musty and the addition of a room deodorizer did little to help...but it is not bad at all. People are making way too much of this.

I can not understand the comments with the bathroom...it is spacious and easy to navigate. Ok, so the toilet is behind a glass door...deal with it...you're on vacation. The shower is huge and fantastic for couples. We used bottled water for brushing our teeth.

We always had enough towels...as a matter of fact, they kept giving us extra towels which was much appreciated...we did not even have to ask. The rooms were always cleaned by noon, except for 1 day where they were cleaned by 3pm. I must say I was very impressed how clean they got the rooms. Each morning I saw all the housekeepers ready to start their work day.

Ok...on to the food.
After reading the reviews on this board, I was afraid that we were going to either be sick the whole time or be so disgusted by the meals that we would not eat anything. This could not be further from the truth. First off people, lets be realistic...this is all inclusive. Anyone here eat at a all you can eat buffett in the US? Of course you have...and do you think that you need to eat everything on the buffett or everything needs to be perfect for you? That is an absurd thought...because buffetts are made to fill you up...not all are a gastric pleasure palace.

Let me give you my "real" rundown on each place we ate:
Each breakfast we ate at the main buffett area...this was very good and had a huge variety.

Most lunches we ate at the same main buffett area...each day there were new items that made it interesting. We ate light for lunch and were never disappointed. Now...is the pizza like the stuff you find at authentic restaurants in the US...no it is not. However there was so much to choose from...I never had a problem...neither did my family.

Japanese restaurant - very good and filling...probably way too much food and it was very tasty.

French Restaurant - again, very good food and service was great.

Steak Restaurant - excellent, ate there twice...never disappointed

Seafood Restaurant - excellent again, ate there twice

None of us got sick, had the runs or anything. We drank bottled water mostly. My wife did eat the salads and both my older son and me ate the fruits. The only stomach ache was eating too much food sometimes.

So overall, these negative food reviews are without merit. We had some really great meals and again I was perplexed at the reviews. We did eat at 6:30pm each night and never ever encountered crowds. As for a comment I saw about flies in the outdoor restaurants...I laughed...I guess they have never eaten outside before. Where I live in NY...if you eat outside at night you need to fight the flys and mosquitos...I think these creatures are everywhere, not just Punta Cana.

Ok...now onto the beach. Beautuful...no bugs like I read. We used repellent one day because I was paranoid from what I read...what a waste. We did not encounter any issues from bugs at the beach. The water was a bit choppy in the afternoon for 3 days...but you could still easily swim...the water was not as clear. On our last 4 days the water was very calm and was crystal clear. We snorkeled everyday off the beach and feed so many fish...it was like being in an aquarium. My younger son loved it and we snorkeled twice a day, at least. They don't like you taking bread out of the restaurant, so just put it in your pocket if you plan on feeding the fish. Oh...we never had an issue finding lounge chairs.

The pool...super nice and fun. If I did have two negative comments... the concrete apron around the pool had a lot of potholes that should have been patched....it is sometimes hard to walk on the concrete in some areas. Also...they need to have more people cleaning up after the guests who drop their cups all over the place. I found cups all over the place.
The staff does an amazing job at keeping everything super clean in some much of the resort,,,so I was a bit surprised that the pool area got a bit unkept by the end of the day.

We went on two trips:
Macau Crazy Wheels ATV tour...in a word....FANTASTIC. If you are looking for a real fun time...do the ATV trip. You will love it. Not going to spoil it for you...it is fun!

We went on a snorkel trip too but I forgot the name of the tour. It was a lot of fun too and everyone enjoyed.

They really do a great job at the Majestic and was very satisfied and felt I got my money's worth. If you are expecting a Ritz Carlton...stay home...you are not paying for that. You get great value at a super nice place. I would not hesitate recommending this resort.

“honeymoon”

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana

We stayed at the Majestic Colonial from june 29th until July 6th for our honeymoon. I have to say this was absolutely beautiful resort. I honestly don't think I have one single complaint about the place.

Our room number was 4344 which had a view of the beach, and a jacuzzi on the balcony. The rooms was very clean, and beautiful. We had excellent service, from all the staff there. The bathrooms was private enough, I've heard other people complain about them but we dind't mind them. It's not like you can see through the doors or anything.

The pool was very clean and very large. Not cold at all. Always plenty of chairs to pick from.

Beach was beautiful, plenty of chairs, very clean beach. Plenty of shade if you wanted it.

We only ate at 2 restaurants because The supreme had everything that we wanted there. We did eat at the steakhouse a few times and that was really good. We couldnt finish our drinks before they would come around and refill them. Everyone was soo nice there. The food was excellent, I think I gained weight I ate soo much. There was pretty much any kind of food that you could ask for at the buffet. I'm a very fussy eatter and I had no problems at all finding foods to eat.

The shows at night were very intertaining. We went to all of them except one because we were too tired. I loved the michael jackson show. The magic show was probably my least favorite but I think the kids there enjoyed that one alot.

Animation team did a awesome job. I dont think I ever saw any of them without smiles on there faces and dancing around laughing. Very friendly people. Absouletly loved this resort would recomment it for anyone and everyone and definitly will be back.

“Good not great”

The grounds are great, rooms have plenty of room, nice accommodations. Food was good not great. One thing about the food if you are traveling with young children, they do not have kid frindly foods. Breakfast buffet was great with lots of choices. The other two restaurants we enjoyed were the Seafood (lobster and shrimp were great) and Japanese. However, service in ALL areas is poor and needs to improve. If you order room service, make sure you have everything you ordered before the person delivering leaves. One piece of advise, if you leave food sitting around in your room you will see ants, lots of little ants. Drinks are good and if you like them stronger just ask for more and they give you more rum or what ever it is that you are drinking. But it is true, they need more bartenders in all bars, especially in the swim up bar. I would not return to this hotel I would try a different one.
