My husband and I stayed at LTI from 5/11 to 5/18 and loved it!! We are both in our late 50’s.
The resort was really nicely kept, everywhere you looked there were people working on keeping the grounds clean. We were in room 4203, yes it is a little dated and the window in the bathroom is downright weird, but how long are you in the room? I actually found the bed very comfortable. I usually wake up with a backache at home, not on these beds. Our week was spent walking or sitting on the beach, sitting on the balcony, eating and drinking, and going to the casino.
We found all of the people working there tried very hard to be friendly and be understood. We usually ate in room 2 because it is non-smoking, and the waiter there would bring my husband a beer and me a white wine without asking after the first time we ordered it. The bartenders would try and get us to say the drinks we wanted in Spanish, but we couldn’t seem to get it right. We only speak English and a few Spanish words, but there was always a “hola” and “Buenos dias”. If you tried speaking in Spanish, there was a bright smile from anyone who you were trying to communicate with. Any lack of communication was entirely our fault as we are in their country and we do not speak their language.
The food was good, always a big selection. We do not usually use salt on our food, so we did find it a bit salty, but certainly delicious. We ate at the beach restaurant for lunch and the chicken was excellent on the grill. We did find the Trattoria a little strange as the only a la carte meal was individual pizzas. The pizza was great though. We did not go to the International specialty restaurant.
One thing I was totally surprised about was the timeliness of the staff at LTI. Having traveled extensively in the Caribbean we have always found “island time” to be the rule. Not here, the evening entertainment was always on time, if not a bit early!! When we were asked what time the porters should come to pick up our bags on the day we left, we said 10:300 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. they were at the door.
Evening entertainment was a bit hokey, but still ok. It did surpass any other all-inclusive resorts where we have stayed that had the evening shows. The shows certainly didn’t rival a cruise ship, but was not bad at all. The circus was good and a lot of evenings they got kids involved in dancing, etc. and they seemed to love it. You could see that the entertainment crew worked hard for many hours per day.
The beach was fantastic. One day sitting between 2 of the bent palm trees I felt like I was in a Corona beer commercial. We walked the beach almost every day for about an hour. I liked our beach and it’s being small resort better than what I could see around us. I like the way the resort is done in natural colors to blend in with the vegetation. It looked more natural to me. We went up and walked around a few of the resorts to get a feel for if they would suit us. One resort a ways down the beach had this garish “thing” on it. It looked like one of those things you would rent for a child’s birthday party that you jump in with small plastic balls. On the beach end was a large slide. I thought it looked horrible and made that resort look a little low class to me. Just my humble opinion. We also went to another resort that you had to take a trolley to the beach. I would prefer to be walking distance to the beach, not riding distance.
All in all, it was a great vacation and we are definitely planning to return next year.
