“College Vacation Place - Has a few bright sides”

I went way back in Nov 2001 before I found this website. This was post 9/11 so the place was really empty. The activities were non-existant because of the lack of people. On the weekends, it really picked up with local dominicans who were visiting the area. The beach was slightly rocky, so wear your sandals. The food was good on the weekends when there were lots of people, but terrible during the week. Lots of people trying to sell you things on the beach. Rooms were big. Bathrooms a little dirty, but no worse than your average holiday inn in the US. I think the place was a bargain for what you paid for.

One bright side was the pool was really nice. I swam and drank all day long and generally had a fun time. There was also a pool table that I spent a lot of time at. Sort of reminded me of my college days - bored and doing little things to entertain yourself. Another good note: The scuba diving from the little local shop was amazing. She gave us a 1/2 lesson on scuba diving (which taught you everything) plus two days out to sea for $75/each. I wish I would have gotten my cert there for $250 (which was the class plus a whole WEEK of scuba). It's several thousand to get the same cert here in the US.

We also toured many other hotels in the area. Don't go to Boca Chica - Other than the Hamaca, One of the sleaziest areas I've seen short of Tijuana.

We recently returned from a nightmare vacation, Feb. 15-22, 2004 ourselves and 3 other couples. We were shocked at our rooms, bathrooms were so old, black mold in every corner never any towels, front desk huge language problem. I can't stress enough how bad the food was. The pool and the very few staff they had were the ONLY nice things about this resort, they seemed to be closed or something for awhile as everything, was old and very stinky. it had cable TV however the cable was pulled out of the wall! there are no jacuzzies, sauna and the spa/gym is completely out of comission as for the beach it had a ton of coral (piles) of it washed up and tons of seaweed. And it was loaded with people trying to sell stuff every time you turned around. Security is very low.. and Santo Domingo has a very uneasy feel about it, my girlfriends and I never felt safe.If you go take room spray! and make sure you wear shoes in the room at all times. They were fixing the place up when we were leaving painting lobby, trimming bushes however this is NOT a 4* resort as the advertisements suggest. beware!

Check-In: Awful. Took them 50 minutes to locate the room My girlfriend had booked for me, even though she had already checked in. Unbelievable.Rooms: Beow average: Bathroom barely functional and raising doubts on its hygyene. However the room was made everyday promptly.Food: Awful. I've had much better food during my military service. Friendly staff couldn't help , it'n not their fault.Beach: Ugly, small, rocks all over the place. Pool: average. Conclusion: filled with US-resident dominicans coming to see their familie's, as it's a 1-hour bus ride to the capital. However, I wouldn't recommend it to people who are looking for a vacation spot. Unlike the rest of the Dominican Republic hotels, in this case you get what you pay for. Cheap hotel, cheap tourists , cheap quality
