Sea Breeze Beach Hotel

We stayed at the sea breeze for two weeks on the 22nd April, it was Just me and my boyfriend when who are in our mid 20s.

On first looks at this hotel, it wasnt what i was hoping for. It looks pretty worn from the outside to say the least.
Our room was quite tired and in the last block along so it was unrefurbished. It was very clean and comforatble and was quite a large size, but it did need a lick of paint. The view from our room made up for it as it was beautiful! We did pay extra for the room though as this was a supierior. That doesnt mean you will get a refurb room though like i thought it would! You need to pay extra for that ontop! But its being refurbished shortly so i am not sure about that when they finish.

The hotel its self was nice, but again worn. But the staff make up for that! They were all so nice and the general barbadians are all pretty nice! Infact, propbably the nicest race of people that i have ever met and i have been to quite a few countries. I didnt once feel threatened or anything, even at night! The island has very low crime and it was safe walking about at night. Probably more safer that it is back home!!

The food in the hotel was very nice. They do a buffet one night, al a carte the next which really worked well. I would just go back for the food! Very good varitey and all tasty. The resturant was made to look really romantic and pretty in the evening which was lovely -but men beware! They are VERY strick on men wearing long trousers. My bf wore some long three quater lengths and he mostly got away with it - but i would defo take some long ones. That was one thing a bit annoying about this holiday!

The entertainment was ok - but for us, pretty borning really. They were just singers really playing when you ate etc - but still nice when you are having a few pre-going out drinks from the all inclusive!

The beaches were lovely - we hired a car one day for £40 which is a must and it is very easy to travel arround as one small island which takes about 4 hours to travel the whole way round! Ring recpetion if u want to hire a car and they will sort it out for you.

On hiring a car - i now wished that i stayed on the west coast as the water there is amazingly still and you wont get kept awake some nights by the waves crashing - if you are a light sleeper - this might get a tad annoying for you! The beaches that side were defintely better, but they are all still lovely with pure white sands. I just prefer carmer seas.

We did the virgin catamaran which was really good, and the helicopter trip which cost £80 each and that was the highlight of our holiday!! Worth every penny.

We also ate out at the resturant at southsea which is the top rated resturant on the island. This was pure luxury!! One of the most romantic, poshest resturants ever! You even read your menus by torches, and get escorted to the toilets! It was very specail here and has a piano bar with a man who has the most amazing voice! I would defo recomend here if you can spare a good £130. We spent that and niether of us even had desert, but it was lovely and worth it for the experience. We even got to try aligator! Check out their website and make sure you book asap especailly if you want a sea table on a saturday night!

They have buses which you can just get on which beep at you like all the time so just walk out onto the raod and within 1 min you are guarnetted a bus beeping! These are like 1.50BD which is like 50p or something for any 1 trip. Just press the buzzer and get off when you wish. I would say this is the best way to travel and you get a feel for their culture this way!
Taxis are pretty expensive - £5 each way into the gap which i think it over the top. We usally got a beep bus their and taxi back.

The gap is pretty lively. They have many bars and resturants here all which were really good. It was more lively that i expected it to be actually! There must be a good 15 bars down there all playing good music. The locals do love a dance!
The Ostins was good also and you get to see just how the locals like to have fun. We did that twice it was such a laugh.

All in all, we had a brilliant time down mostly to the people who we met. We met such a nice crowd and they all defo made our holiday perfect.

The hotel itself was not my cup of tea really. I wasnt upset about it, but i wasnt that happy either. The staff were brailliant though! They all were so helpful and friendly especailly when you get to know them. I think many people get the wrong idea about them being grumpy and that, but i think they are just so relaxed out there - thats just the way they are! They were all wonderful, especailly the recpetion staff.

The hotel is going through a massive refurbishment and will be shut for 3months and i think that is the best idea that this hotel has ever had! Its got the potenital to be something great, and i would defo like to return now i know its getting done up. They are even buliding a second restuarnt!

Idont know what the refurb is going to look like, but before i knew that, i would suggest that If your looking for a luxury holiday, then i would suggest the west coast in one of the top hotels there.
If your looking at a nice, clean hotel with frendly staff , great food and a nice beach - then here would be perfect. I just hope they make the refurb as best as they can as this is a wonderful place.

Oh and girls - one bad thing is the electric in your rooms is rubbish! I brought a hairdryer and straightners and they were just useless. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom which is worth just using as that worked better than mine!

You also dont need to take any beach towles as they are all supplied for you.

“A big thumbs up!”

Sea Breeze Beach Hotel

May 22, 2008

After reading the reviews on here beforehand we decided to keep an open mind, expecting the worst of our bog standard BA "Garden Room" however we were delighted with our room, up on the third floor of the furthest away block. As soon as we threw back the curtains, we saw a spacious balcony and a superb sea view - a total bonus. Rooms were well-equipped and yes, decor was a little dated, but who cares when you're looking out on to that every day? The bed was comfortable and huge, plus we had a little kitchenette with fridge (which we soon filled with Banks Beer) and kettle and loads of space to hang up clothes. The rooms were cleaned daily although I believe if you are staying for two weeks they clean only every three days.

The staff are incredibly friendly and can't do enough for you. We didn't spend much time at the hotel as we were room only, so we didn't get to find out all their names. However, Kay at reception was an absolute star in organising all our excursions for us. You don't pay any extra either as they take commission from the companies themselves.

No flies and I didn't get bitten by a mozzie once which is unheard of. We took great amusement in feeding the birds on our balcony each morning with little scraps of food - they're not shy at all!

The first night we ate in the hotel as they had booked us in (fair enough as we'd never been to Barbados before and it had been our plan to eat there anyway). It was Thursday night Caribbean barbeque. The food was good, if not a little expensive - London prices is right :) Cocktails are cheap though - $9BDS or about £2 for a pina colada which was gorgeous.

The next day we hung out by the pool and headed in to Oistins for the famous Friday night fish fry. It was an experience and not half as touristy as you'd expect if you stay late. We left at around 11 (jet lag) and it was just getting started. You can walk to Oistins (we did, during the day), partly along the beach, but I wouldn't recommend it at night as the pavement is narrow and uneven, not great in the dark.

Hiring a car is a great way to get out and about - we went up the west coast, to Folkstone beach, the Malibu Beach Club (fantastic: a tour of the Cockspur rum factory and admission all day to the beach club for about a fiver - fab facilities and cocktails), Bridgetown (disappointing, couldn't find the supposedly great shops though the Waterfront Cafe is good), Rockley Beach (another great one), Harrison's Cave, Flower Forest, etc. My favourite was the Graham Hall Nature sanctuary, a 5/10 minute drive from the hotel. It's on the main road and you'll drive past it loads, but please go in. It was a real surprise, loads of colourful birds and you get to see them in fairly close quarters too. We went at around 4pm and it was empty. A real gem (and this from somebody who's not particularly fond of animals).

At night, we didn't manage any really late nights, but St Lawrence Gap is a must - we ate in Cafe Sol, Jumbies and Josefs - the latter we paid around £100 for two, three courses with wine, but the setting is sublime and the staff are just lovely so that was our one blow out. Cafe Sol was good, cheap-ish but very spicy - be prepared! Jumbies was nice too. The only disappointment was Sweet Potatoes - fish was overcooked and other things ready-made by the taste of them - a bit of a let down.

After we gave the car back we booked a couple of excursions: Diving, with David at the Dive Shop St Michael, was excellent. As first timers, he put us totally at ease and it was almost like a one-to-one lesson - fantastic. On the last day we did a Cool Runnings catarmaran trip - another great day. The food was perhaps the best I'd had all week - it's £40 a pop, but you do get picked up from and delivered back to your hotel and you are never without a drink (rum punch at 10 in the morning anyone...?)

All in all, it was a fab trip and I'd thoroughly recommend the Sea Breeze (2 pools and 3 sections of beach mean that even when it's full you can find some privacy). We'll definitely return - it will take us a while to pay this trip off though so probably not for a while!

“a great vacation”

Sea Breeze Beach Hotel

we have just returned from our great vacation from barbados. We stayed at the sea breeze hotel. We loved it. there were just few things we were not fond of.The place is defenietly not a 4 or 5 star resort, it's very dated, however the friendly staff makes it one of the best 3 star resorts we have ever been to.we stayed in one of the rooms overlooking the ocean,it was great to wake up to the waves of the sea.The food was good, for people on the budget i would defenitely recommend the all-inclusive option, otherwise the money you spend on food, going out to different places, will add up to the money you spend on airline tickets flying there. If you don't have a budget than you will be able to expierence a lot of nice places, since barbados has tons of the restaurants.I have to worn you though, the cheapest dinner me and my husband had was $75(american money),didn't include the drinks.
We had a lot of fun things to do,jet-skiing,sailing,snorkeling with turtles and on the shipwreck, went to the harrison cave(the great expierence),checked out wildlife reserve and etc.So no matter what you like to do,you will be able to find it in barbados.Entertainment for all ages and all sorts of people. You will not be bored.
Going back to the the hotel. If you are a young couple you might not like the location of the hotel, since it's far away from all the entertainment (nightclubs, restaurants),you will spend $20(american) for the taxi if you want to get there(st. lawrence gap).So if you find the place to stay near the Gap you might like it much more.If you have young kids don't go to this hotel. There is nothing to do for little kids,no playgrounds, no shallow pools,no babysitting and all other staff you enjoy with kids. You'd better look into the Divi resort, which is more family oriented. This palce is great for middleaged and retired couples, since everything you might want on vacation you find in the sea breeze:beach, pools, bar, night entertainment and everyday shuttle to the bridgetown for shopping.
So go to barbaos,it's very safe, friendly and memorable. If you have questions i will be happy to answer them.

“Thoroughly recommended”

Sea Breeze Beach Hotel

May 10, 2008

We stayed a week 19-26 April in a Deluxe ocean view apartment - had a read a Trip Advisor review saying it was worth upgrading as these rooms had been refurbished and it probably was worthwhile. Main thing being I assume rooms in the first block (sea view and possibly garden view) would look on to the pool and restaurant and might have been noisier (from occasional evening music in restaurant) than our room (which was in the second block). Our room was exactly as pictured in their website (although slightly less garishly green) with flat screen tv, sofa, and table and 2 chairs, as well as huge bed. Rooms was always cleaned. Staff were helpful in true Caribbean fashion. This hotel is nice and quiet because it is off the main Oistins-Bridgetown coast road. I do not think the reviewer who was rather negative about the place had done their homework - all the hotels on the South Coast will have seas with fairly lively waves and swimming conditions not be particularly suitable for young children. You need to go on the Caribbean (west) side of the island for flat seas and great snorkelling- but the advantage of the south coast is I think it is more laid back and fantastic choice of restaurants with easy distance (of walking there and taxi/toottoot bus back). As previously mentioned by some, the food is definitely a grade above what you would expect in a hotel of this class, probably making All Inclusive a good deal. However we had deliberately chosen to go b&b via Caribbean Hotels (very helpful and reasonably priced) so we could sample more of the great restaurants in the Gap and slightly further afield. Totally recommended are Josef's and Champers, with Pisces a close third. (booking recommended for all 3) (£50-£70 for two) Less recommended is Cafe Luna/. We found a fabulous place for lunch near Cranes Beach Resort called Cutters (if you are out in a car, well worth a stop). This is on the H7 road near Diamond Valley. This is not an upmarket restaurant, but a rather unusual, laid back deli type place just on the road.
There are two beaches at the hotel always clean- one really quiet with palm trees for shade and a shower and the other larger, more lively and open with windsurfers/watersports etc. Some days we were the only people on the quiet beach but it does get less wind and on the last day we had to go to the other beach just to get more breeze.
We hired a car for a couple and days and visited the Port Vale sugar cane processing plant/Sir Frank Hutson sugar museum - open Jan-May and well worth a visit. Also worth a visit is the Barbados Wildlife Reserve/Grenade Hall Signal Station/ Woodland walkway. Although we did not use the much maligned gym, we actually suspect this has been moved and improved.

“Fantastic Place...”

Sea Breeze Beach Hotel

May 10, 2008
5/5 found this review helpful

We have just returned yesterday from Barbados and stayed at the Sea Breeze Beach hotel in Christchurch, what a wonderful holiday we had! First things first we booked it online through Virgin which was a scary thing as we have never been to Barbados before but after seeing some of the comments left on trip advisor it gave us that extra boost to go ahead and book it! We had such a fantastic holiday, wish we were still there!! we stayed for 10 nights which is enough to see the island and take advantage of the excursions. The hotel as a whole was excellent, but there are a few things that werent perfect but the good outweighed the bad. First of all the service from the staff was excellent and they are so friendly and make you feel very welcome. The food was excellent, 3 courses a day with such a wide selection of different foods not once did we get upset tummies which is a relief after our experience in dominican republic. The location is perfect!! you couldnt ask for anything better, overlooking the beautiful clear blue sea and hearing the waves from inside your room! now for a few niggly bits that you may want to consider .. if you are looking for a budget holiday and not looking to spend much time in your room then this is the place to go, if you are looking for a room that has high class and modern finishes then this probably is not right for you, the rooms could do with moderisation, plus the double bed is two small beds pushed together and me & my partner slept with the gap between us which was annoying for him but i do know that you can pay a little extra to have a newer room as some sections of the hotel are being refurbished. Apart from that the air conditioning & fan was superb, plenty of storage space and satelite television. If you are not a bird lover like my partner then you may want to make note that there are a few small to medium sized birds that fly around and land on your table at breakfast & lunch, some of them do just fly off with a little wave of the hand but some of the little birds do try their luck!! they can be annoying but on some days they dont appear at all. Also i would strongly recommend to go all inclusive as the prices of the food out there is expensive, more than what you pay in London!! a suprise to some it may be! We didnt spend much time in the swimming pools as they were quite small, most of the time we spent was on the beach which was beautiful but be prepared to be pestered by "reggae-dudes" (a name that we call them) which are local sellers, but are all very polite and with a simple no they will leave you alone. Plus the security guards are all over them like a flash if they see them so you are well protected. Would definetly recommend you try out Alex's jet ski from the watersports, what a great experience this was!! and he is a real lovely guy. Excursions not to miss are the jeep safari in a 4x4 which takes you off road, this was fantastic! and a good way of seeing the whole island and its history rather than hiring a car yourself and getting lost! Definetly recommend the catamaran trip where you get to snorkel with turtles, this is such an experience and you also get to see some amazing tropical fish .. didnt see a nemo but saw a dorey! : ) Overall we had such a wonderful holiday, it has been the best and we will definetly be visiting the island again! we miss it so much and we hope that this review helps any of you out there that are considering going to the sea breeze or even just visiting Barbados.
