Made a difference to our visit to Montreal

When I travel for pleasure I make sure that the hotel I stay in is comparable to my clean and comfortable bedroom. Hotel XIX Siecle definitely fills in this category for me. The staff were absolutely helpful in every way and made my husband and I feel very comfortable. The lobby served as an elegant and homey place to while away a thunderstorm as we relax with a cocktail from the hotel lobby bar. The location is convenient for tourists like us as it is close to the best restaurants, the Metro and the main sites of old Montreal. The hotel cost through Expedia is a very good deal. When the WIFI works, the free internet service is pretty convenient. I definitely recommend this hotel. Kudos to the staff! You have made our stay in Montreal a memorable one.

Very impressive

This is one of the best hotels I’ve being staying in. Very clean room, comfortable bed and friendly stuff made our stay in Montreal enjoyable. Perfect location - very close to Old City and 10 min walk to St. Dennis with it’s busy night life. Our stay was just perfect! Can’t wait to get back.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get breakfast at Eggspectation Café right across the street. One crepe’s order has two very large crepes... think before you order them as your meal and another one for your dessert (you’ll never eat them all... it’s impossible).

Basilica was nearby, as was Chinatown, and the Montreal Jazzfest. Central location with a subway stop only four blocks away.

Montreal’s charm

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel XIX Siecle. It had charm and comfort. Our room was very nice, and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly. I did miss some of the more modern amenities like a pool or even an ice machine, but apart from that, this is one of the nicer hotels we have had the pleasure to stay in. The old architecture was charming, and the rooms were clean and had old world charm. I would certainly stay at this hotel again!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Hotel XIX Siecle is nicely situated between the Metro, Square Victoria, and is only a few blocks walk from the beautiful town square. There is wonderful food within walking distance, and plenty to see and do.

Second time there

This is a really nice boutique hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located in Old Montreal and is close to Notre Dame, the port, restaurants, shops and bars. The Metro transit system is approximately one block away.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The parking and continental breakfast package is a good deal.

A nice place to stay

The staff was extremely polite and accomodating. The room was large and clean (though lacked a mini-fridge or coffee machine). The continental breakfast was very nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people looking for a bit more of a comfortable, homey feel.

Comfortable, Relaxing, and Well Placed

Beautiful clean rooms, very comfortable, great lounge area with small bar, very helpful staff. Buffet breakfast in the dining room a bit pricey but it’s optional. The hotel is just 5 minutes by foot from the heart of Old Montreal. Very homey.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great Polish food at Stash Cafe on Rue de Saint Paul just a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Good quiet location

NIce quiet location for this hotel. No traffic in front of the window. Extremely high ceilings but furniture soen’t take advantage of it, they should thin about putting a chandelier. Buffet breakfast was OK, not as amazing as other comments suggested. There is an excellent restaurant down the street called Eggspectation which does an amazing brunch! Extremely friendly staff!

Traveler's tip on dining

Eggspectation down the road towards Notre-Dame makes an excellent brunch, I’d have gone there every morning if I had seen it sooner. Only slighlty pricier than hotel.

Friendly Montreal

The staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful. I had heard Quebecers could be unpleasant but that is definitely not the case in Montreal and especially at this hotel. The hotel is close to the art district with many fine restaurants just a block or two away.

Great Hotel

I stayed here for three nights just after Xmas. The service was excellent, the rooms were large, clean & well maintained. I spent quite a bit of time in the lobby bar which is open till 3, but the staff let us stay long after closing time. I’d stay here again.

A great little boutique hotel in historic Old Montreal

The Hotel XIXe Siecle is a great little boutique hotel in historic Old Montreal. The exterior (a majestic facade that belonged to a bank before its conversion to a hotel) is charming, as are the lobby and bar. The room was ample and comfortable and the staff - especially Fritz - was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our stay corresponded with the great blizzard of December 2007 and we can’t think of a cozier place to have waited it out. XIXe Siecle is tremendous value for the money and we highly recommend it.

Very Nice Hotel and Staff

We had a great time at the Hotel XIX Siecle. The staff was super nice and very helpful, especially at the end of our stay when a storm looked like it was going to impact our flight home. They helped us monitor the flights and get an early taxi in the middle of a snow storm. Our room was clean and beautiful. The location of the hotel is very convenient for seeing the Old Port area, and is also close to downtown (esp. if you use the underground city passageways!). We highly recommend this hotel.

Perfect understated quality

The Hotel XIX Siecle in old Montreal is a perfect location, price and size for business or leisure trips, esp. for middle class folkes who want tasteful, historical comfort without forced elegance or crazy prices. A small hotel converted from a bank, it is renovated to look like it should for the historical style, and not overdone. The rooms are comfortable, beautifully restored and decorated with modest furniture that fits in, bathrooms in sparkling black and white tile and nice touches like terrycloth robes. The staff are unassuming, patient, and open with suggestions should you ask. A nice feature of the hotel is the roomy ground floor sitting room/bar/library with groupings of furniture and coffee tables, a small bar and library walls full of books. Good place to hang out in, wait, refine your plans, or review the show later in the evening. The location is perfect for tourists, esp. walking ones. It is one block’s walk to the closest subway access which is valuable if you are visiting in winter, and it is a very central home base toward lots of key strolling destinations to the north, south, east and west. We did not take in the breakfast so can’t speak to that. Besides breakfast, the place does not serve food though you are invited to order in and there are lots of restaurants nearby. It’s not that often that I’m so comfortable with a hotel that I would specifically make a point of going back, but if we are ever in Montreal again we will return to Hotel XIX Siecle.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Unless you have challenges walking, you don’t need to rent a car if you stay here. Cab from the airport and you can get most places by foot and/or subway. Eggspectation is the best priced eatery nearby - most other places nearby are overpriced, but more economical ones are a quick walk (Chinatown closeby) or subway ride (such as to the corner of St. Denis & St. Emery where there’s one of four Les Trois Brasseurs brew pubs, other restaurants, live and screen theaters and bars along St. Denis).

Truly impressed!

We were expecting a nice hotel from reading the reviews, and we were not disappointed at all. The room was huge and very comfortable, great service, great location... no complaints. "Happy Hour" was a bit quiet, but there may have been too few guests in the hotel... Breakfast was nice and filling enough to last until dinnertime.

Traveler's tip on dining

Chinatown wasn’t the best choice for Chinese restaurants at all - the majority were Vietnamese. Really good Mexican restaurant around the corner from the hotel on rue St Xavier, I believe...

Would stay again;

Montreal has over 100-hotels, and any number of Auberge in the Old Port. Hotel XIX is literaly on the very edge of the Old City, within an east walk to Montreal’s amazing "underground", and the Metro! It’s another very old bank building refurbished as a classic hotel, with it’s on-line famous 14 foot ceilings in every room. Very quiet, kept very clean, with a wonderful breakfast buffet. We’d stay again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Open air markets, their Metro and their "underground", the Latin Quarter, St Charles Street, it’s all their in Montreal.

Can’t wait to go back!!!

The hotel is lovely. The attention to detail was unbelievable. It was an old bank from the 19th century. We would recommend it to anyone!

Recommend parking the car and walking thru Old Montreal.Checking out the museums and all the fine restaurants.

Nice but pricey given location.

This is a lovely hotel, with kind, helpful staff. There is also a wonderful breakfast every morning. The rooms are nice and big with very tall ceilings! My main complaint is that it is listed as being in the old town part, when in fact it is just outside of it. There is nothing very appealing around the hotel itself. Granted a few blocks up is Notre Dame and the old town--but for this price I was expecting to be IN the midst of it. For the price or a couple dollars more you can be right in old town. Or, go a little farther away and pay a lot less.

Nice Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 7 days/nights. The hotel was very nice and comfortable. The room we stayed in was on the small size, however, we weren’t in our room much. The continental breakfast was wonderful, the staff was pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful, the hotel was clean, which is more important than anything else. We would definitely stay here again.

Traveler's tip

Hotel is centrally located to everything from restaurants, old town, old port, shopping district, metro, etc.

Nice and Quiet, Close to Everything

My wife and I stayed at the XIXe Siecle for three nights on a trip celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. We were very satisfied with the room and its amenities. The staff was couteous and helpful, if at times stretched a bit thin. We loved the location close to Old Montreal and downtown.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If we had it to do again, we’d probably forget the rental car. It cost us $20/day to park, and we walked nearly everywhere we went. We did use the car to go up to Mount Royal one day, but aside from that, we didn’t need it.
