Can anyone reccomend a reliable, fair priced tailor in the Sukhumvit area near Robinson's Department Store in Bangkok? Can you also let me know if bartering is a common practice in relation to tailors here? We will be there for 4 days next week and would like to get a few custome garments made.

I appreciatte any suggestions or advice as this is my first trip to Thailand. thanks for your help!

Crown Tailors just inside of Sukhumvit soi 8 is my usual recc's. They're about a 5 minute walk from the robinsons department store so it shouldn't be too bad for you at all.

Bartering is indeed a common practise, but again, prices will drop depending on how much you buy (the usual way it works with everything).

I'd just like to add that make time for the fittings as you'd probably need to be in the tailors at least 3 times during your whole trip!

lastly, have fun while you're at it!

Certainly agree with Garyphil. I have used Crown on 3 occasions now including Sam’s visit to London. They make great shirts at fair cost. Maybe 10-15 minute walk from Majestic Grande. Not had a problem yet and am pleased witn selection of Crown shirts.

Cheers

I was recommended to Excelsior after a college of mine Visited them and was overjoyed that somebody could had him Fitted.

They are not near sukhumvit road but i guess a 10 minute drive from there.

I visited them 2 months back.

The measuring process was intense. They took lots of measurements

and recorded them by computer program along with my style feature requests – peaked lapels, double vents, two button, hacking flap pockets and a ticket pocket. My prior experience (and this is not criticism but just a difference in the way tailors work) was a few measurements written on a form.

They also suggested a shirt and we picked a blue two-ply superfine 100's from his “executive collection” end-on-end with a true split yoke (I think he did this just for me after our discussion of the value of a split yoke).

The suit was beautiful! The fabric is even more outstanding than the swatch (think of the shirt/tie combinations with a navy fabric with light blue and burgundy pin stripes) and the fit is perfect. The hand work and details are outstanding.

Never having that feeling of a perfectly fitting suit I must say it is really a joy. Now I know what you guys are talking about.

And the shirt (with French cuffs) is very impressive. It fits perfectly too!!! I’m really pleased with the features and the fabric.

Thank you Excelsior!!

I would search this forum for comments and recommendations from a few more people re the recommended tailors or re alternatives to these recommendations.

And - why are 90 % of customers of the aforementioned tailors tourists and not expats, Thai or Japanese businessmen? I wonder.

I was recently there at Excelsior. They did a good job and was really happy with the turnout. I stayed at the Tarntawan. I guess its not far away from the sukhumvit road. The fellow had The lord of the ring team come to him.Paid around 200 dollars for a wool suit with name engraved inside and all the interlock piping lining with different color lining. Its my best suit i ever got.

Hi,

It was 120s Italian wool, black in colour. They have lots of fabric books. Tell them what you are looking for ie a black fitted suit.

They will show you the different fabrics, shades of black and quality of fabric.

You then pick the colour and quality you like and ask for a price. Because i bought two suits i got them slightly cheaper

I had never been to a tailor before, at first you worry that your suits will not turn out nice. But for me it was money well spent. It was also a great experience. I have a very important interview in 10 days time and am so happy i went to Savile row fashion(Bangkok)

Take your wife to the fittings, so that you have a second opinion on the style of the suit when you have the suit on. Your wife can see if it needs taken in more..........

You need to tell the tailor if the shoulders are too big, trousers are too baggy, jacket is too long. Tell him if you want a single rear vent on the jacket, two button or three.

I would say there are the best in town.

Hope this helps
