Definitely take us50. A classic route and scenic almost all the time. The part from S. Lake Tahoe to Ely leads through so called range and basin lands. It's also called "The Loneliest road in America". Belony. It's not and you'll find fuel pumps at several places. Maybe spend first night in Ely. Nothing fancy but lodging and food. Next day you'll pass Great Basin NP certainly worth a short visit. . From Great Basin take 21 to Beaver, south on I15 to ut 20, 89 S and 12 east. The whole trip is easy, very quiet and on good roads. No worries. Fill up your tank in Ely.

Thanks for the tip... Just did the drive today and it was great... almost no cars, great speed and nice scenery... glad I did it. Saw lots of deer, glad they were just off the side of the road and not on the road.

Thanks for the feedback! Does not happen that often. Us50 was planned to become I50 but they decided in the favor of I80. So instead of a major route those towns along it almost became ghosttowns but they survived and you even could have bought a pass and a sticker saying: " I survived the Loneliest road of America" You have to make some efforts to earn a buck haha.

Tet,I did even better, I picked up a t shirt at the International cafe in Austin stating "rt 50 lonliest road in America".As a matter of fact still have it.

Our best experience on 50 was stopping overnight in Eureka. We stayed at the Parsonage Cottage. It was a beautiful cottage run by a very charming couple.

That was in 96, when we came this way again we stopped in to see them and was sorry to hear husband had died and his wife was now living in the cottage.

This was the "Hiding JEWEL of RT50'.

Never forget the Parsonage Cottage and the charming couple who owned it.

One other thing watch for snow on 50,no plows out here.

Memory lane Joe. I did not know about the cottage. I remember we stopped in Eureka at its eastern side on the "range" and A. and I had a mini meeting wether to go pick up the pass. We decided not and drove to Ely (ELEH), next day Great Basin and along us50 to Utah via Delta. That was in 1997. Oh well....counting days now are you? Just received a message from a local expert on the Australian forum we can stay 4 days in Sydney in a "only Yachtclub members" room with balcony and right by Sydney harbour at the marina just steps from all Sydney has to offer. She has arranged that for us! Isn't great with all the TA contacts? Been to Sydney before but we didn't stay that close then.

Lots of glass in hand on that balcony.

"Only Yachtclub Members"

Can't get any better than that.

A. must be in her glory now..

Memory Lane Yes.... Especially the good times...

By the way still pondering when leaving Cody Should I take the Chief Joseph Scenic highway

or

East entrance 14/16/20 Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway

going into Yellowstone.

What do you think?

Did 14/16/20 loved it but Chief Joseph sounds great..

Are you kidding Joe? Always drive roads you have not driven before. Explore! CJ is great but Beartooth is greater. Slight detour though.
