I would think Sandy Beach, as it has the surf and restaurants in walking distance. In a small area, all walking distance is Tamboo, which is really great in my opinion, Casa Islena, Bungers, Pools Bar, Rock Bottom. They are all good. And it would be a great area to be in at night if you want to walk to dinner and bars and not have to get in the car.

Look at Caribbean Surf Villas in the Puntas. House looks nice, has 2 one bedroom apartments, 2 two bedroom apartments, and gets good reviews on this forum. Can get one bedroom for next winter for $749 total for 7 nights. A lot of nice amenites. I was going to reserve there, but for a 2-week period during President's week they'll only rent the entire house. I've never been in Rincon but I think a rental car would be needed.

As a follow-up... We stayed at Villa Ensenada and it was perfect! The location was perfect for the surfing and the pool/grounds were perfect for the r&r. When the surf was low we snorkeled right off of our beach and when the waves cam in the surf was 10 feet high right in front of the house. The owners were lovely & accommodating and villas were perfect for the 4 of us. If anyone wants further information please feel free to contact me! (Fyi, we're going back in feb but have to try out Caribbean Surf Villas since Villa Ensenada is booked solid!)
