Sydney to Canberra day tour |
|
Hi, Can anyone recommend a good Sydney to Canberra day tour?. Thanks |
|
I am not aware of any company that runs Sydney to Canberra Day tours. Canberra is a minimum of 3 hours by road from Canberra so a bus tour would spend 6 hours at least just getting to and from. Most of the institutions in Canberra require at least 1/2 a day to make a visit worthwhile and thus a day tour would be pretty pointless. You would only get a curory glace at the Nations Capital. You could fly (about 40 minutes flying time) and use one of a number of local tour companies, but again with airport transfers, check in timmes etc you would still spend 3 - 4 hours hours just on travelling. I would suggest that you need at least 1 if not 2 nights in Canberra to make a visit worthwhile. For some ideas of tours in Camberra see http://www.canberradaytours.com.au/ and http://www.canberraeguide.com/ for information on Canberra see

Hi, It would be worthwhile hiring a car for a day or two and stay overnight in Canberra. Its a nice 2.5 - 3hr drive and is freeway just about all the way, very leisurely. Car hire wouldn't be too expensive for the two days and would allow you to travel around at your leisure to all the worthwhile sights in Canberra which are very accessible by car. Plenty of parking at all the main atrractions too (and I'm pretty sure frre at all locations). I beleive that Greyhound tours have coach trips down the freeway to Canberra and they are pretty cheap but not sure if they have actual day trips that take you to the attractions such as the War Memorial, the Mint etc. Hope that helps. Is true,6 hours of driving time there and back doesnt leave much time to sight see unless you leave about 500am and expect to return midnight.Stay overnight is nice and experience some the of the resturants Canberra have to offer in suburbs like Manuka etc.Maybe stay in Queanbeyan as its cheaper to.Also depends what time of year and what part of the week you go to. Winter is lovely but obviously cold and alot of traffic to the snow.October is floriade, very nice but very busy.Mid week outside school holidays is best.

Hi all, Thanks very much for the suggestions. Sounds like there is too much to cover in a day trip. I'll may be plan a 2-day trip next weekend.

There is a day tour from APT (Australia Pacific Tours) for Canberra from Sydney. It's pretty good and complete. You may ask for it from your hotel concierge.
