euro2008 _Comment |
|
I have just read one of the best euro2008 comments and I would like to share it: "...anyone who prefers white wine to Carlsberg Bier will be expelled behind a high fence..." This of course refering to the extraordinarily intelligent idea of building high fences around the fan zones. Tak |

The public opinion on Euro 2008 has turned sour here, no doubt. Much comercialisation hype, security rules and traffic jams ahead. UEFA has exaggerated completely. I'll watch the matches at home on TV, together with some friends. 90% of local people will do the same, in my opinion.

I got one more brochure with today's mail about the trams and route deviations from about 3 to 9 hours before every game...I guess it was meant to be helpful-it just made me angry. Not only you cannot use any form of transportation (it seems)to attend the games but you cannot also use any form of transportation to go anywhere in the city, unless you are a nintendo or xgame expert and can outwit the matrix (or something). Kileyssmom did mentioned something once about going to Alaska.... Tak

great idea mutzli but make sure to drink carlsberg ;-) i recently had a discussion with a football hating friend of mine and he already has "nightmares" of the things to come. but let's be positive, it will be also a lot of fun! many people from different countries, drinking (carlsberg) beer together, watching and discussing great games, etc etc. this will be a one in a lifetime event, we shouldn't forget about this! cheers, bowmore

What's this Carlsborg thing I hear you talk of? I've never heard of it before? :)

Speaking of beer, does Basel have such a thing as "micro breweries"(pubs that brew their own beer). We have one or two in Edinburgh, and I know they are massive in America. It's not something I've heard of on mainland Europe though.

Taks and all - you're more than welcome here - about the only football/soccer we have is the kids playing all summer! I didn't want to do it but now I'm glad worked forced me to change plans for this summer in Switzerland!

Thanks very much Linnen. I'll look out for it on our travels.

hallo Roy, we have one and it is cult. You can convince peter to take you...:-) Tak ps: the carlsthingy is a yellow liquid that seems to have overtaken the city. All though it tastes like the Rhein it is not. (at least I think so) pps: KM, we might just take you on your word...

Hi Roy There is also a brand called "Unser Bier" (translated "our beer"). A very small brewery founded by 200 Basel beer lovers, and despite the small quantity, very popular. The, alredy mentioned Ueli beer, is brewed at the Fischerstube, a great pub, with a open air part behind the house, similar to the bee hive in Edinburgh.
