Hi,

I'm searching the internet for a map (with road directions) of major wineries and/or agoturism sites in the Chianti region. We will be visiting castello DI Verrazzano in july and was told that they are many wineries in that vicinity that we could stop at and enjoy (buy their products or just look around without taking the full tour). Does anyone know where I could find such a map?

Thank you all

Mirabel

Have a look at www.chianticlassico.net. This is not a complete list but there are a number of links where you could put together a nice wine tour on your own.

If you stopping in Greve, then be sure to spend sometime at the old wine cellar near the COOP supermarket. You can taste most all the wineries of Chianti there, plus they have literature on more of the wineries and maps. In addition, in Greve on the town square is Falorni's Deli which does wine tasting with cheeses, and meats. Here you can find more info on the wineries.

Enjoy!!

Hi

If you go to the website www.monterinaldi.it you can order a map and they send it really quickly. It has details of all the wineries in the chianti classico region. The website also has lots of useful information for planning your trip.

Hope you find this helpful.

The map from the above is great. I just ordered another because I wore the old one out.

Thank you Ricardo,

Is Greve a big town? The maps I found seems to show it as a big place. Easy parking? The places yo mentionned are easy to find?

I also went on the site you listd. Found the map but not much on wineries, I will continue reading up tonight! Thank you!

Greve is a very small town and there is plenty of parking on the east side of the creek behind the COOP store. It can be crowded during the Saturday market. Even then you will find a parking with a little work because people are coming and going by car.

Judy and Fatjack, thank you so much"!!! That is EXACTLY what I was looking for!!! I'm gathering that the wonderful map I see in pieces on the site is th eone I shall be receiving? I'll just print it if ever I dont receive on time but I still got 4 weeks till my honeymoon. Tell me have you ever shipped wine for this estate to the us? The prices are fairly reasonable. Just wondering if you ever had good or bad experices with shipping. Since what we could bring back is so limited.

Thank you again!!!

The map that fatjack suggests is very good. If it doesn't arrive then I believe that you can get it at any of the places mentioned in Greve and in the other towns and wineries in Chianti.

As fatjack responded the town of Greve is not large and there is plenty of free parking behind the COOP and near the wine cellar. The Saturday Market ends at around 1pm, but you might enjoy buying some products there in the morning for a picnic.

A very good wine tour is at the Castello Verrazzano near Greve. Call ahead and reserve their tour and lunch. The setting is outstanding and the lunch with the wines is very generous and excellent.

We enjoy picking up picnic supplies and a couple of bottle of wines then walking up to the small village of Montefioralle and having a picnic in the square overlooking the vineyards and the valley. There is a small winemaker in the village who sells wine and olive oil and will allow you to spend the day at his winery and enjoy the view.

Enjoy!!

Shipping wine home is very expensive. I have had no problems packing my wine in our checked baggage. Check out some of my prior posts on this. Don't waste your packing space on ordinary wine, go for the extraordinary wines and you can save up to 50% or more even with the low dollar.

Thank you Fatjack, I will read up on your posts. Ricardo I have already reserve at Verrazzano!!! I'm happy to read another good review , I'm guessing it will be one of the highlights of our honeymoon! I will also check the village you mentionned. We are only in the region for 3 days and my husband-to-be wants to make a stop in Florence so I think I'll be planning a trip back even before I leave for this one!!!

I just ordered the map too. Thank you for the recommendation! We only have a day in Chianti/Siena and are trying to make the most of it.

All suggestions and recommendations gratefully accepted. We have booked the car, now we have to finalize where we want to go.
