A few years ago we discovered several genoa nightspots that did a free buffet with drinks purchase. Does anyone know if anything like this still exists, and where?

In Italy, etiquette dictates that when you order an alcoholic drink, you are provided with some light snacks, e.g. peanuts, crisps etc. You may even get a sandwich. I don't know of any buffets, though.

In Italy l'aperitivo is a must and you will always find to eat things like focaccia, pizza, grissini ecc.

Cheers

Many bars in Genoa (as well as in most large towns in Northern Italy, at least) serve free food with drinks during the 'aperitivo' hours before dinner time, i.e. (roughly) between 6 and 8 PM. The term 'happy hour' to designate this is more common in Milan, but the idea is the same.

There are several such bars around Via Venti Settembre, the major thoroughfare in Genoa.
