Hi, is the bus or the train the best way to go to Malpensa? We are catching a flight after a cruise in March 09, but will be staying overnight in Milan where the hotel shuttle will pick us up at the airport to transfer to the hotel.

It's this bus: http://www.volpibus.com/?c=orari.asp&l=19, but only if it happens to go at the right time for you and if you have pre-booked your seats on it.

Otherwise, train to Milan and the airport shuttlebus from Milan Centrale train station to the airport is the way (for details of these see the trenitalia and Malpensa airport sites).

I assume your hotel is not actually in Milan but is an airport hotel near to Malpensa. If I'm wrong and your hotel is in central Milan, then going via Malpensa might not be the best way.

Thanks perlizia. Looks like from the bus schedule, it is either 6AM or 15:50 from Station Principe, which is the station closest to our Genoa Hotel. You are right, we are staying in Ramada Inn in Malpensa. They are supposed to have a free shuttle which can take you to the Malpensa airport or to Milan. Do you know what is the difference in travel time by bus and by train? How about the fares? Thanks in advance.

Bus details are on the Malpensa airport website. Genova-Malpensa is €20. The airport shuttle bus from Milano Centrale train station is half-hourly, takes about an hour, and costs €5.50.

Train fares and times vary slightly depend on what train you catch, and whether you're travelling first or second class. See http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html entering the fare rate 'standard' once you've moved onto 'buy' for the train you might want. Enter a current date - information is only available 60-90 days in advance depending on train. The site will not accept US credit cards so you can't buy in advance.
