I have read mixed reviews about the area surrounding Via Principe Amedeo. for Hotel Contilia. Can anyone give me some helpful advice regarding the surrounding area. Is it safe to walk at night.?What is the overall climate of the the area ?

Hello. We stayed in Rome for 5 nights in April. Our B&B was about a 7 minute walk from the train station. My daughter and I walked about in the evenings and felt completely safe; there were always people around. We stayed on via Giolannza (not sure about the spelling) and felt very safe.

We are staying at Welcome Residences in a couple of weeks time, near Termini. Tripadvisor people have give it great reviews, thats why we chose it.

I have stayed on Via Magenta previously, again near Termini. I never had any trouble in this area.

Hope this helps.

Suggest you get a copy of the Insideout Rome map/guide.It shows the street clearly and is very useful.the street is parallel to the station and is a mixture of living and some small hotels. There are a lot of immigrant males (mostly outside the internet cafes ) but they will not bother you.The advantages of staying close to termini (perfect for all the methods of transport that a tourist is likely to use cannot be understated ).After a day walking you are unlikely to be out too late. This area is dead after midnight. The Via Cavour has some inexpensive, nice trattorias.DONT WORRY .

We stayed at the Star Gate Anakin Hotel. Nice rooms and very comfortable. The area is very safe and only less than 10 minute walk to Termini.

Try 66 Imperial Inn. We stayed there last year and loved it. It is only a 5 minute walk to the station and gets great reviews, also.

Thank you so much everyone for your help. This will be my first time visiting Rome and I am taking my Mother for her first time to Europe so I wanted to make sure that the location of our hotel would be okay.

We stayed at the Roma Nord on Giovanni Amendola, a very short walk from Roma Termini. The hotel was nice and the staff was VERY helpful. They gave us good recommendations for dinners. Our room was very clean. There was rather pricy internet access. They had a lovely rooftop bar. Breakfast was more than adequate. All that was lacking was scrabled eggs, which my husband sorely missed. I would stay there again.

That's an easy one.

Metro......cheap, quick, regular. Stops at all the tourist locations.

Cool also, gets out the Roman heat for a bit too!
