We are heading up tomorrow and would be forever grateful for some restaurant pics! We hear San Sebastian is the cat's meow for tapas and the like, and don't want to miss a beat. The only catch is that I am a vegetarian (no meat or fish) and my fiance loves his meat. I don't want him to have to sacrifice all the goods, so if we could find a few places that would cater to both of us, that would be ideal! If there are any Michelin starred restaurants that you think would cater to us and that we could get a last minute ressie in, please let me know. Thanks :)

You'll find vegetables in the unpretencious restaurant Morgan at Narrika #7. Among the pintxos in San Sebastian can have 'tortilla' (potato omelette), pimientos asados (baked red pepper), wild mushroom...

I'm sorry, but as well respected Arzak is, there are a number of excellent restaurants in San Sebastian-Donostia that I prefer. It may be a personal issue since I've met Juan Arzak a few of times of the last several years and have no problem with him being one of the best chefs in the Basque country, but there are many other worthy of consideration, including David Lopez (Kokotxa) and Andoni Luis Aduriz (Mugaritz), not to mention Juan José Castillo (Casa Nicolasa) and one of my favorites, Cédric Béchade (L’Auberge Basque in the Pays Basque).

One question: what's your budget? All of the places mentioned are fabulous but only one of them is, shall we say, reasonably priced (Morgan).

There are a few pintxos (tapas) without meat or fish; just look around. I know Munto (on Fermin Calbeton) and Astelena (Plaza de la Constitución) have a few without meat, based on mushrooms and cheese, but I'm sure they're not the only ones. And if nothing else, you can always have tortilla de patata, as mentioned.

There is a vegetarian restaurant in San Sebastian, but it is a little off the beaten path, in the neighborhood of Egia; it also does not have meat dishes. Regardless, just say so if you want to know where it is.

NY:

If you look on the left panel at Restaurants, you will find the list of vegetarian restaurants. I found only two in the city.

Thanks for the ideas! The zomby is my fiance, hehe, I am posting under his name. We had a blast trying all of the pintxos last night - I mostly ate the tortillas, but I did also find an eggplant dish as well as a spinach and goat cheese tart - yum! I think we are going to just do that again tonight, it's so easy and fun. I read so many mixed reviews about Arzak that I don't want to be disappointed. If you'd like to suggest your favorite place, we are all ears. Thanks again :)

Maybe it's too late but another restaurant option is Kaskazuri (Paseo Salamanca 14). It is quite good, reasonably priced, and there is always a vegetarian option.
