Hi

Husband and I are thinking of visiting family in SS for around a week late August. Quite fancy a few days in Barcelona after that. I've noticed flights are quite pricey with changes vai Madrid etc. Are there any internal airlines I could look out for?

Driving isn't something we wnat to do, but how about a train journey? Is this possible?

To add to the equation, I will be around 26 weeks pregnant so a comfortable method of travel would be preferred!!

Thanks

try flights Bilbao-Barcelona, there is more offer and probably lower prices.

www.trabber.com is a good tool to find flights

From SanSe, Bilbao is easy to reach by public transport. Bilbao itself is worth a visit (and not only for the Guggen)

You can fly from either the San Sebastian airport (Hondarribia), or from Bilbao to Barcelona, which gives you a few more options. You can now also fly from Santander to Barcleona.

I just checked a late August (25th) flight from San Sebastian airport to Barcelona. The direct flight (1hr 20m) is running $176 USD round-trip/person. Not bad waiting this long to book.

We had vary positive experiences flying ClickAir from Barcelona to Bilbao and back. Clean, efficient and relatively cheap--RT for around 90 euros. Because Bilbao is an hour from SS, we elected to stay near the airport in Bilbao the night before our return, staying at a WONDERFUL hotel, the Palacio Urguoiti, about 10 minutes or less from the airport. Elegant, quiet and we paid 110 euros. It was the best hotel we stayed at in 4 weeks in Europe, and highly recommended.

Thanks for the tips. But the flight from Bilbao is at 6.45am and so it would meanan overnight stop there which we can't do.

Looking into trains now and it seems there is a day one and an overnight one.

Can anyone advise if this is any good? Seems okay price but if we go overnight and went first class, would we get our own cabin?

If you don't mind taking a bus, I think it takes around 6 hours (company: Vibasa). While it may be less comfortable, you'd spend less time travelling. It leaves San Sebastian at 7 am.

I have never taken the train as it takes too long.

Thanks for the info.

The bus isn't an option as I get terrible travel sickness on buses and being pregnant, i need to be able to move around.

We thought the overnight train would be fine as we don't loose any "day time" as such in San Sebastian or Barcelona.

Did you end up taking the train?
