Staying in Koblenz a few days and would like to know if anyone could recommend a nice family owned hotel in or near the center of town? Also thinking about a Rhein or Mosel cruise. I was thinking the Mosel may be less crowded and we could get off in Cochem for beer or wine and a good meal. any suggestions?

For touristic information about Koblenz please contact:

Koblenz Touristik

Bahnhofplatz 17

56068 Koblenz

Phone 0049/261/31304

Fax 0049/261/1004388

e-mail: info-hbf@touristik-koblenz.de

They probably give you the best advice and recommendation.

For Cochem:

&

burghotel-cochem-mosel.de/english_restaurant…

where always nice.

In the peak season - summer time - both rivers are crowded.

Happy journey :-)

When will you be travelling ? The experts always have some great suggestions, but it would help if you give them a time frame.

September might be the busiest time there. Wine festivals and fireworks shows take place every weekend in September along the Rhine. Same thing on the Mosel but the towns and the events are smaller in scope.

We usually stayed at the Mercure Hotel Koblenz accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/me… but it was over our budget this year. It's about a mile walk from the train station, or a 10 euro taxi ride. It's only a few steps away from the Rhine, and a great view of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress (worth a visit), koblenz.de/stadtleben_kultur/koblenz_allgeme… We've never done a cruise, we just catch a train to the town we'd like to visit. Check http://www.k-d.com/englisch/index.html for cruise schedules and times. There are other cruise lines along the river walk if you'd like to compare prices. Cochem is about an hour away by train. We really enjoyed our stay there. Have a great holiday !!

Go to the theater if there's something on. The Koblenz City Theater (Built 1787) is one of the few remaining classical period theaters still standing and in use in Germany. It is comparatively small (about 450 seats), and the decor is charming, in white, pale blue and gold. The theater houses a fully equipped music theater (opera, operetta and musicals), ballet and spoken theater.
