Courtyard Duesseldorf Hafen - arrival and restaurant |
|
We are flying into Dusseldorf at 5 pm on a Tuesday and leaving at 10 am the next morning (layover). We're staying at Marriott's Courtyard in Hafen at our travel agent's suggestions. She said there's a restaurant called Robert's Bistro (or something) 1. What's the best and fastest way to get there from the airport? I realize a taxi is fastest, but at what expense? We'd rather spend the money if the train will take more than 1/2 hour longer - we have so little time. 2. Any restaurant suggestions? Thank you. Ellen |

DB timetable http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en From: DUS To: Duesseldorf, Speditionstr. 11 Single ticket is EUR 2,10. map with public transport vrr.de/imperia/…duesseldorf.pdf Speditionsstr. 11 is in field 3C Other options: S-Bahn train to Duesseldorf-Hamm and walk. S-Bahn train to Düsseldorf Hbf (main railway station) and taxi from there. > I realize a taxi is fastest During rush hours I would not count on this.

It is approximately a 25 EUR drive - and if you have luggage I would certainly take a cab. Roberts Bistro is a fun palce - but is quite busy and I am not sure if you get in. But there are plenty of restaurants around (if you are not on a tight budget try the "Lido") - and if you just have the one evening I think it is a good idea to stay in this rather new and interesting area. You can roam around a little and decide - otherwise you can go into old town with a cab within 10 min. Duesseldorf is not a very large city... Enjoy Markus

Thank you for the help. Robert's Bistro just emailed back saying they're closed the week we're there. Pity. :( Should we just wander the streets and choose another place or do you have a suggestion?

I tried the train link . I got: It seems it takes 31 min. with one stop. Does this seem correct? I'm worried we'll get confused - we don't speak one word of German. We stayed here last year, we got the train to Dusseldorf HBF then a taxi to the hotel, go out the front of the staion not the back. We did use the train once (to/from the hotel) but its a 15 min walk to the hotel after you get the local train to the harbour area. Personally I'd get the taxi. We ate in the Marriott restaurant and it was ok but there are loads of places to eat in that area. go out the back of the hotel and turn left. Theres a nice place next door and if you carry on down and go right over the bridge there are lots of other nice places to eat/drink.

> It seems it takes 31 minutes with a stop. does this seem correct? 29-37 minutes. Depend on the connection. Select at the DB timetable as means of transport "only local transport". It makes no sense to use an ICE train for such a short hop. Single ticket is EUR 2,10. That's the price for any local public transport trip inside Düsseldorf. Thus it plays no role if you just use it from the airport to the main station and take a taxi from there or if you change for a bus to Speditionsstraße. A mini group (2-5 persons) day ticket is EUR 11,00.

In the Hafen you can try Riva (can be a bit of a posers place but the food is good) or Mongo's is good and reasonable too (Mongolian barbecue, i.e. where you pick your veg / meat / fish, stick it in a bowl, select some sauce, and then the chef stir fries it up for you).

Ellen. Travelling into the City from the airport is both easy and cheap. As stated before, the total fare one-way is €2.10. Don't worry about not speaking German as the ticket machines are also in English. (Click the Union Flag). Trains to the main station leave every 10 minutes or so, and take around 10 minutes. Once there, rather than catch the s-bahn, take the 708 tram to Hamm. Get off at Franzius Strasse, it's only around 5 minutes easy walk to the Courtyard from there. It will take longer than a taxi, but not by much, plus you get the chance to experience the German transport system and will see so much more of the city.

Today I figured out that the fare for a oneway-ticket is EUR 2,20 ;-(
Moreover, there's a new fish restaurant in the media harbour. Located in the old club called MK2 (Kaistr.) It looks quite nice...
