We will have 4 hours between planes in August. Want to get out of airport and be able to walk after a long flight. I read here that it is about 15 min ride to Frankfurt and Mainz. Which one should we see? Which one is more compact and faster to get to what we want to see. Even if we end up having only an hour to walk, I think its better than just sit at the airport. What do you suggest? Is it worth it? THank you

Frankfurt itself is closer than Main

drive downtown using the S-Bahn and stroll along the Main river and discover the city center :-)

beside that - you can walk around the airport ( it is big ) - check out the visitors terrace and the shops, have a drink or eat something

To get to the inner city in Frankfurt take the S8 or S9 train from the Regionalbahnhof at the airport until the stop Konstablerwache. Then you are right in the center.

I think you'll be amazed by how incredibly enormous Frankfurt airport is...and by how much time clearing customs and getting to your connecting gate will take you.

Watch out on your time. Do you have 4 hours from the time you land or from the time you get out of customs immigration...that can change everything. Also once you leave the airport you will need to go thru the security check points again..you will no longer be in the transit area. If nothing else go across the skybridge and have a cup of coffee and relax at the Sheraton Hotel...nice lobby.
