Fantastic - two different sites, one in the square around the cathedral and one at the Schloss zum Thurn und Taxis. In the square, you'll find fairly standard Christmas market food and gifts, but done wonderfully and with great souvenir boot shaped mugs from the Gluehwein stands.

Thurn & Taxis is 5 minutes walk from the main market and has an entrance fee (5 euros a head if memory serves). It does offer something a little more rustic yet altogether more classy. Hot mead, a wider range of food offerings (including a hog roast) and some classy craft based gifts. Be warned, in the evenings closer to Christmas, it gets packed and can be hell getting in and out of.

It will be - I was there the Tuesday before Christmas last year in the evening and it was beautiful but packed. In previous years I'd visited during the day earlier in December and it was perfect.

If you're driving and you have time, Passau is also well worth visiting.
