I am visiting Munich in August and have been looking up various restaurants to visit during my stay. Could anyone recommend a good restaurant, reasonably priced restaurant in the surrounding area - my friends and I are keen wine drinkers!

The Pfälzer Weinstube is located at Odeonsplatz directly in the Residenz (former residence of Bavarian kings), just 5 minutes walk from Mrienplatz. The food is horrible there, but the wines from the Pfalz are great and cheap:

Thanks - can you just go to drink? It would be preferable to get a combination of good food and wine!

Try the Ratskeller - just behind the Glockenspeil. Great atmosphere downstairs, defeincately worth taking your camera on a visit to Munchen. They have very good lunch items too. Very reasonably priced.

I agree that the Ratskeller would be a good choice. It offers a broad menu of food and alkoholic beverages. Itis in the basement of the city hall, which is right at the Marienplatz. The Pfaelzer Weinstuben are also nice, but as the name implies, more oriented toward wine than food.

Of course you can go and just have some wine at the Pfälzer Weinstube. It's not pretentious, just some wooden tables and chairs/benches in the hall where in past centuries the king's guard was on call. You can also buy all wines offered to take with you.

Take-away prices for wine bottles are half the price quoted in the above wine list. You get 10% off if you buy 3 bottles or more.

It gets a bit crowded at lunch & dinner hours, but there are many tables. They can usually squeeze you in somewhere... I have been there 3 times - no reservat.
