I am in the central area of Aix and naturally don't have the proper converter for my laptop. I have a French two-pronged plug for the outlet, but the cord coming out of my laptop has 3 prongs (it's a grounded cord from the U.S.). Anyone out there who can tell me where to buy the proper converter in town? Greatly appreciated!

The adapter you have should work.

Plug the computer cord into the adapter, the round ground stem of the plug will be visible on the "outside" of the adapter, the two flat prongs will fit into the adapter.

Plug the adapter into the wall. This will not give your machine a ground connection but many of the older French outlets do not have a ground wire anyway.

If you need a different adapter, go to FNAC (I think there is one in downtown Aix) or Darty and ask. If you have a car, there is a Carrefour just outside of downtown with an electronics department and they should be able to help you. Take your computer cord with you, it will help explain the problem and find solutions.

Thanks, you were right about the adapter working without three prongs. What a relief!
